Resume Help

I'm trying to describe my job title in my resume but would appreciate any input you fine folks may have to offer.

The situation is this. I am an hourly employee and I am not in management. My manager has made me, what she calls a "part-time supervisor", meaning that I am a regular hourly worker most of the time but every single Monday I supervise the department because my manager and supervisor are off site at meetings etc... . Also I supervise the department if my manager or supervisor is away sick or on vacation etc... . I do get a weekly bonus for my added responsibilities but am not a salaried employee.

So should I state on my resume that I am a "part-time supervisor" or would "assistant supervisor" sound better or is there another term I could use?

Note: The job I am applying for is a supervisory position at another division within the same company I work for now so the more of a supervisor I can sound like, the better.

If you assume all of her responsibilities in her absence, then you would be more accurately referred to as an <span style="font-weight: bold">Associate </span>Supervisor.

This may sound like splitting hairs but if the job you are after is a supervisory position the distinction will be important.

I do agree with you in some respect.. However, in many organizations, the terms are used pretty much synonymously. But if we want to get technical usually “Associates” do outrank “Assistants”.

Milo, you should determine which to use based on the amount of responsibilities you have now and requirements of the position you are seeking.

I would say I was &quot;acting supervisor&quot; in the absence of the regularly assigned supervisor of the mangerial team

No matter what you use, selling yourself, and what you can contribute, will be what is important during the face-to-face interview. Don't sell yourself short. You can do a little bit of overselling, relative to what you can handle. <span style="font-weight: bold">Get the job</span>, because most of us will do quite ah bit of on the job learning as we go, and there are usually people willing to guide us if we treat people with respect.
