..spoke to an old chum from high school last week...she is giving the impression that other than the "hot spots" it is relatively safe to live in Kingston...she has bin in the Red Hills area [one hot spot] for over 20 years and sound fearless...all a brag tuh mi dat shi drive at night....but she is very low keyed, [not a new returnee...her Mom retired from di US in her house before she passed]

..what is so sad is the fact that these ppl cannot get their houses sold....methinks they should've done their homework in terms of getting the pulse of the island, before they decide to tie up all their funds..[wan fran a mine move back but a rent im a rent...if anniting im can ketch di fuss or secand plane hout]

...aftah hearing these stories, no wandah many spit pan stone an chrow it behind dem.

methinks it bettah fi tan whey yuh deh an tek 2 or even 3 or 4 vacations there in di wintah hiff di snow an cowl baddah yuh....

Some agree with the “hot spots” theory – some don’t.

I hear you but, the thing is, the most unexpected of tragedies seem to happen anywhere and everywhere in recent years, nuh true ...

I pretty much agree with the hot spots and low key theories.

Some people chat too much, and their supposed friends will use their chatting against them.

I feel safe in certain areas of Kingston. Other areas....

1. Never guh back where you left or grew up and build the biggest house
2. Depending on where u live, pretend to be a renter, not the owner.
3. If buying in (gated) communities, try to avoid lots backing out to the perimeter fence or lots with empty spaces beside them. ( Its best to surrounded by homes as oppose to be on the periphery)
4. Do not befriend the area leader. Simply ignore, or if him gwaan like him a chuck it, you chuck it harder.
5. Do not befriend the local police.. (dem worse dan the professional beggars)
6. If possible have a family member live in a section of the home. They can serve as "property manager" when you away.
7. Always at all cost keep a low profile. Drive car similar to what others in the neighbourhood drives.
8. If building, use a certified builder (check Master Builders Assoc) and engage the services of a reputable lawyer to liason on your behalf with the builder. Get set prices from the Legal services.
9. Dont entertain freiends from yuh old neighbourhood a yuh yard new yard. Better to meet them a Devon House, Terra Nova or somewhere, but NOT a yuh house.
10. rembere "see me and live wid me a two different things" . Visiting Jamaica pon holidays, and actually living thru the system a two seperate things.. Same fi anywhere else..

The houses are too big. What are people thinking, building such palaces? They can't really be converted to guest houses either because South Haven doesn't appear to be a high-tourism area.

On another note, the story of the police officer going rogue sent chills down my spine. JA will never better until the persons in charge (politicians, police, other authority figures) are themselves trustworthy. To me their crimes are doubly heinous because they are paid to protect JA and work for her well-being. The even swear oaths, lying liars.

I think is like X said is not so much that they build these big houses, if you want to build a mansion fine, but go build it with other mansions! Why you a go inna area with all regular size house and build these big humongous things that scream returning resident come rob me! Thats what I don't understand.
