Race is only a secondary factor in why black youths are not getting an education.

If you take the primary factor which is economics or a class thing it all makes more sense.

The fact is that if you are in a poor neighborhood the schools are also most likely to be poor in quality. Many towns and cities base their school budgets on real estate taxes which in poorer neighborhoods yield a lot less money than the rich suburbs.

That poverty is not limited to blacks. The graduate levels among Hispanics is right up there with blacks and those whites in poorer neighborhood schools also have horrendously low graduating levels.

A mostly black area will be likely the poorest as well and the schools even worse.

Piled on top of those disadvantages are the social factors outside of school that adversely effect education in inner city and poor neighborhoods: gangs, drugs, a disdain for high intellectual interests, bad diets, The single parent or working poor parents both at work at sometimes three jobs and not home to keep an eye on the kids: in general, a bad environment for intellectual pursuit..

Yes there is a racist aspect to the disproportionate numbers of blacks who come of the educational system illiterate but you are talking about a small percentage of the totals for all the poor.

The problem is strictly economic or class.

In Cuba they have a mixed race society with the colonial European racism still clinging to the democratic socialist society.

What they do not have in Cuba is inequality as to the access of education.
In Cuba there is near 100% literacy and this goes right across the racial and gender and age spectra.

In Cuba as in the USA or Jamaica it is a matter of having free schooling....... BUT BUT BUT with the safe environment, the ECONOMIC SECURITY , the crime free neighborhoods, the peace of mind and a government that sees to it that you get that education that is so necessary.

These condition which exist in (democratic, socialist) Cuba DO NOT exist in the poorer neighborhoods of America nor in the poorer neighborhoods of Jamaica and you cannot expect education to be successful with the social chaos that exists as a result of the class war.

There is enough money. There is enough of everything that is necessary to end poverty, create safe neighborhoods, end (hard) drug use and the drug trade and from that base create the environment necessary for providing excellent educational opportunities for everyone.

The problem is in the distribution of all that money, all those services.
There simply is too much money in both salary and accumulated wealth being held by the top 5% or so .

The bad news (for some) :
That 5% will most all have to be killed or exiled to their Swiss bank vaults and guarded estates come the revolution.
The good news:
With the exception of Oprah Winfrey and a few others most of this 5% is mzungu so they'll only be getting neighborhood justice standards applied to their vital organs.


It's economic equality that provides a decent education for ALL.


You can't tell me Bill Cosby's, Oprah's, any MONIED black person's kids are going to grow up illiterate.

It's all about the money or lack thereof.

It's your money or your life.

Yes.

An after school system that is community based and ( if necessary forced parental participation) run, operate, and manned mostly by people who reside in the community whose student has or is attending.
For three hours things that are not taught in regular school is given (homework if needs be) and community participation is practise. The Church is best suited to achieve this end, but sadly they are more concern with whats to happen in heaven, than whats happening on earth.

Thats has been the bone of contention between blacks nationalism(race struggle, back-to-Africa) and black communism(class struggle, workers unite), and has split the black movement many times through - out history.
Which truly is Primary?
I look at it this way..It is primarily and fundamentally a class struggle, in Global reality and human context. Nevertheless it is expressed as a race struggle to blacks primarily and fundamentally.......... as such IT MUST first be addressed and solved as a Race struggle before dealing with classism.
As there is no gaurantee that if the class struggle is resolved, that the racial aspects will go away....for as we see in Cuba, Russia and China Ethnocentrism (tribalism), Xenophobia and Racism still remains.

Why not did'nt your parents teach you how to be a parent? Thats parenting being taught by &quot;Modeling&quot;.
Parenting needs to be taught because of modern (nuclear family) living situations in which both parents are often working and babysitters are unqualified as proper agents to &quot;Model&quot;. In Major Modern cities in which children are raising children and great granny is only is in her 40's coming out of a broken home, with little education and poor coping abilities, parenting skills will be greatly diminished through out the generations.
It is a given that most people make naturally great parents, but we are seeing more and more where the trend is children today lack communication, conflict resolution, altruistic(emotional intelligence) skills, moral and constructive thinking ability.
