Funeral Follies

Just came back from a funeral where someone unknown to the deceased's family showed up and introduced herself to the children as their sister.

Not the first time I have seen or heard about this of course but I just got to wondering why people who may or may not have been "outside" children seem to have a thing for showing up at funerals and creating drama. Why we do this ? I have only experienced this in Jamaica and at the funerals of Jamaicans living in the US. I was just wondering if this is a more universal thing.

I showed up 8 years after my step-mom`s funeral. By then I was an outside son waiting to turn up. Met my Dad and my 4 brothers for the 1st time.
Everyone was happy I spared them the sudden surprises.

No it is not just a jamaican thing
my grandparents are europeans
when my grandfather died woman
turned up saying she was his
daughter i found it funny as hell
we (kids) thought grandpa you sly
dog you now she is
part of the family

Saying that she was, was enough to be, or did she have to bring forward proof?

She showed proof birth certificate
grandfather name as her Dad
also she is a ringer for my Aunt
they could be twins and after
initial shock wore off Dad and
his sister and brothers agreed
that she was not to blame for
Grandad having a mistress
most of his life it would have
come out anyway because he left
her money and stuff. My Mom told
my Dad he better not be doing any
stuff like that cause she will wake
him up from death and kill him all
over again

No. Not a Jamaican thing. When my uncle died, a young woman announced herself as his daughter. I didn't like that, mostly because my auntie had had at least 6 miscarriages and had no children.

Oonu just remind me that smaddy call me bout 5 months ago say she is my sister and mi did say mi was gwey keep in touch I gwey call har and go look seef we fayva. And no nobaddy nuh dead (yet).

Btw, I notice that at fun-erals, and on them dateline type show dat dem always say '(the deceased) was the nicest warmest person ever, she/he lit up the room'. Oonu tink only the good ones a pass on an lef the world wid misery?!
