Looks like nature versus nurture. I used to think your environment had a the greatest effect on your preferences. That theory has been blown out the water for me based on my experiences and observations with friends and family.

being Scottish from mi modda side, going to Scotland wen mi sista was in Nursing School dere, mi neva tek to dem cuisine....bland, bland an more bland..even di Chinese food was bland

being Lebanese on mi fada side, mi odda sista living ovah deh fi 7 yrs,i love Middle Eastern food...love it...

came bak to seh dat yaad food is special..wen i lived in AR some white kids whose parents were from Mississippi would knock on mi door telling me dat as dem come home dem smell mi cooking an could dem come to dinner...even wen mi cook curry, dem deh deh...yaad cooking break down barriers fi real...a
