TORNADO HITS SAV - Injures four persons causes damage to buildings

A tornado hit Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, yesterday evening, causing damage to buildings and leaving four persons injured.
Four persons were reported to have received injuries, three received minor bruises while the other was said to have received major injuries.
All four were reported to have been hospitalised, to receive treatment. Up to news time, the nature of their injuries were unknown.
At the same time, three houses were reported to have been damaged by the tornado, one of which was totally destroyed. The roof of a Church was also believed to be blown off during the passage of the tornado.
However, up to news time, no confirmation was made about the status of the affected Church. "From the tornado lick ... it tear up everything," a frightened Westmoreland resident told the STAR.
" Me hear seh it tear up the whole of downtown ... me tink a one plane crash ... it sound like a engine," the resident also commented.
When the STAR spoke with Ronald Jackson, director of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) last night,<span style="font-weight: bold"> he confirmed the incident of the tornado.</span> Jackson told the STAR that the tornado occurred between 5 and 6 p.m. yesterday.
He also revealed that parish co-ordinators from ODPEM were on location keeping track of the tornado
