ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 30, 2010) - Rocco Rossi criticized opponent George Smitherman for walking out of the Toronto Community News debate after being confronted about his $1 billion e-Health spending scandal by three frustrated women.
"What does it say about Mr. Smitherman's credibility when he literally runs from his record?" Rossi asked. "The mayor has to answer to the people of Toronto and Mr. Smitherman showed today that he refuses to be held accountable.
"You don't earn trust by running from the tough questions," said Rossi.
Rossi noted that he was the only candidate with a plan to make City Hall honest.
"Every other candidate in this race asks us to just trust them with our tax dollars," said Rossi. "I am asking Torontonians to trust themselves and hold politicians accountable through voter recall and term limits."
Rossi received enthusiastic applause from the audience for his vision of real change at City Hall.
"Politics need to be a time of service, not a career," said Rossi following the debate. "Progress on every other issue -- waste, taxes, transit -- starts by making City Hall honest.
"This election is about trust and I am the only candidate that will give Torontonians the power to keep City Hall honest with voter recall and term limits."
