Reports are that NASA designed the capsule, the US engineer down suh came up with Plan B and so on and so on. Mi think everybody done know what role any and everybody tek in getting them out suh why dem need fi wear di tshirts dem ?

The capsule that brought the 33 trapped Chilean miners to the surface could be worth up to $1million, according to experts.

, the Phoenix Two rescue capsule - which would surely have a starring role - has become the topic of an unseemly struggle. The pod was designed by NASA and built by the Chilean Navy but is owned by Codelco, the state mine company. However, Copiapo wants it for its new museum to the crisis and the navy wants it as a symbol of hope for the port of Talcahuano which was devastated by the earthquake in February.

Although there is no suggestion that the capsule is for sale memorabilia experts have put its value at around the million dollar mark.

mi memba dem did ask di President if dem was gwine to gi bak the note sent out by the miners to let them know they were alive...even on the nite of the rescue the reporters were reminding him that the copyright belonged to the miner

The rescued Chilean miners overcame violent disagreements to work as a team to survive, they have disclosed as they celebrated their freedom and new status as national heroes.

The miners who returned home last night spoke of the horrors of the early days after the accident before contact was made with the outside world.

The first accounts of life for the trapped men hinted at a complicated period of squabbles, disagreements and even physical confrontations between the group during those first dark days after the San Jose mine collapsed on Aug 5.

The men had "separated into three groups because of fighting. There were fist fights," one miner said.

But they are reported to have made a "blood pact" not to speak about the problems between them.

“What went on in the mine stays between us and always will. That’s what we’ve agreed,” the first man to leave the mine, Florencio Avalos, 31, told The Daily Telegraph last night, as he returned home after the 69-day ordeal, still wearing the dark glasses to protect his eyes.

31 of the 33 miners were allowed to leave hospital last night. The two that remained were Mario Sepulveda, 40, who is undergoing further psychological assessment and Victor Zamora, 33, for dental treatment.

Doctors fear that Mr Sepulveda, a natural showman nicknamed “Super Mario” after the Nintendo character, is not adjusting to life outside the mine.

“I have been told that Mario Sepulveda is having psychiatric evaluation,” said Dr Jean Romagnoli, the chief medical officer at the mine.

Most of the miner’s returned home to colourful street parties.

“I am so happy to see my wife and children, it’s wonderful. There were times when I never thought this moment would come,” Mr Avalos said, once again clutching his seven-year-old son Bairon, who captured the hearts of millions as he tearfully waited for his father at the entrance to the tunnel on Wednesday morning. Last night Bairon was still wearing the miner's helmet his father had worn on his journey to the surface and a Superman outfit.

Mr Avalos said the men kept hope of a survival by pulling together to beat hunger, thirst and desperation underground.

“As a group we had to keep faith, we had to keep hope, we had to all believe that we would survive,” he said.

Franklin Lobos, a former professional footballer, said he and his fellow miners had acted like a great football team.

"We pulled together when things got rough, when there was nothing, when we needed to drink water and there wasn’t any to drink. We pulled together when there was no food, when you just had to eat a teaspoon of tuna because there was nothing else. That really bonded us," he said.

Edison Pena, 34, who kept himself fit underground by running daily through the dark corridors of the mine, was among the first three men to be released from hospital.

"I’m well, really healthy," he said. "Thank you for believing that we were still alive ... I never dreamt that all of this might have happened. I hope it will never happen again."

He said he was astonished by the size of the crowd. "We are not pop stars or anything, we’re just ordinary people," he said.

"Los 33" as they have become known around the world have called in an accountant to manage their affairs after agreeing to divide all their earnings from interviews, media appearances, films or books.

"It's logical. The media is earning a lot of money through us so we should get something too," Brunela Avalos, the wife of Renan Avalos, said.

The men have had offers to travel around the world. Football clubs in Madrid, Manchester and Buenos Aires have invited them to their stadiums.

Some of the men said that they were determined to continue as miners. "I want to go back," said Alex Vega, 31. "I'm a miner at heart. It's something in your blood." Osman Araya, 30, agreed: "Of course. We have to keep working. This is part of our trade."

But the men said their first priority was to reacquaint themselves with their families over their favourite meals.

Juan Illanes, 52, the third miner to rise in the Phoenix capsule, was among the three to be discharged from hospital Thursday night.

"I’m going to go home, sit at the table with my family, and eat a salmon sandwich," he said.

Yonni Barrios tells mistress: ‘I’m going to take you to bed'

The mistress of Chilean miner Yonni Barrios has revealed that his first words to her on emerging from his two months in captivity were: "I'm going to take you to bed for a few days."
Susana Valenzuela, 45, said the long time he had spent 2,051ft underground had made her boyfriend “quite frisky” but that he would have to wait until he is discharged from hospital – likely to be some time today.

The 50-year-old miner acted as a doctor to the other 32 trapped men. His wife of 28 years, Marta Salinas, discovered he had been having an affair for five years when she met his mistress who had set up a vigil in Camp Esperanza.

Mrs Salinas stayed away from her husband’s triumphant return to the surface, saying: “I am happy because he made it, it’s a miracle of God. But I’m not going to see the rescue. He asked me to but it turns out that he also asked the other lady, and I am a decent woman.”

He was greeted instead by Miss Valenzuela, who ran into his arms and kissed him as his rescuers, aware of his reputation as a ladies’ man, shouted: "Go Tarzan!"

Yesterday, Miss Valenzuela told The Sun that the moment they were reunited would never leave her.

"When he held me in his arms we were both so emotional we could barely speak. But he said, 'I love you and I'm so happy you're here’,” she said.

"I was shocked by how thin he was but so happy the nightmare was over.

"We are very much in love and we're going to be together from now on."

She said there would be no big homecoming party for Mr Barrios, just chicken and chips and an early night.

"We just want to spend some time alone together,” she said. “We will probably sit and listen to our favourite music by Nana Mouskouri and Demis Roussos, and I will cook for him.

"He has lost a lot of weight so I'm going to make him some pasties and his favourite chicken and chips."

"Even before he got out he was telling me, 'I can't wait to come home. I'm going to take you straight to bed.' But there's not much you can do in a hospital full of miners and their families.”

She said that she and her lover had discussed setting up home together before the landslide which trapped him in the mine on August 5 but he was concerned about leaving Mrs Salinas and her four children.

"Marta only paid attention to him when she wanted money. So when I met him I did everything I could to make him feel happy and loved,” Miss Valenzuela told the newspaper.

"I wouldn't care if he had no money at all - I just want to be with him."

Edison Pena says he has emerged from the rubble of the San Jose mine "more human" and "more loving" than the man who descended down a shaft in the side of a mountain for what should have been a routine shift.

Speaking to the BBC after his rescue last week, the 34-year-old miner has laid bare the appalling reality of life entombed 700 metres underground for 69 days.

Known as "the Runner", Edison, perhaps the most traumatised of all 33 miners who cheated death at the base of the mine shaft in Copiapo, painted a disturbing portrait of bewilderment and loss.

"Why am I not dead? Because it's unfair to die. Why should I die? Why should I die?" he told the BBC's Panorama in a frantic and at times disturbing interview.

"Do you have any idea of how is it to live in that darkness? Do you really know? I didn't want to remain there. Why do I have to be trapped in here? I don't want to be trapped here. I want to live, I want to get out of here."

Edison's interview was the continuation of a conversation that began via a series of emotional and at times heart-wrenching letters exchanged with the Panorama team while he was still trapped underground.

The small bore holes used as a supply route became Edison's life line and his way of sharing details of life deep underground as rescuers worked frantically to free the men.

In his notes, Edison spoke of how he hated the mountain and wanted to destroy it, how he ran and tested his body physically in a bid to mentally defeat the wall of rock that entombed him.

In our response to him, we tried to echo his words and feed him any encouragement we could. We wrote: "Destroy that mountain. Hate it. Send it to the ground with your fury."

Haunted by hunger

For his fellow trapped miners, despite their miraculous rescue, he also might offer a warning of the torment yet to come.

Behind the gusto and bravado of liberation lies what was, for a time, the unfathomable reality of freedom.

Throughout his interview, Edison's bitterness at the plight he has suffered is palpable and borders on the frenzied.

It is clear that the intense hunger he felt during those first fateful days - his ribs protrude from his chest - is what haunts him the most.

"I think from now on no food will be wasted in my house. I want to give a big message concerning world hunger. I never thought of giving an interview, but now I think that God was protecting us, he was protecting me, and humbly I wouldn't like to let a single grain of rice go to waste at home, because that's what I felt, that hunger and to go over that again is too strong for me.

"It's really hard to come back from death, it's very hard. Now I just want to live, I want to live. "

The group of men will have regular medical checks for the next six months to nurse them back to health and guide them through a difficult psychological period.

Doctors are most concerned about stress-related illnesses in the coming weeks.

The tough culture of the industry will help some miners cope, but psychologists warn of a flipside that means they may be less inclined to ask for help when they need it.

Some are expected to suffer flashbacks, anxiety and other clear symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

'Stay alive'

Survivors of near-death experiences, particularly those who endure precarious conditions as prolonged as the men have, face other troubles as they readjust to normal life and feel the burden of becoming publicly known figures overnight.

Candid about his torment, Edison said the support offered to him by both his partner Angelica and through the exchange of letters with those above ground helped him get through his ordeal.

The written words were, he said, something to cling on to in the darkness.

After his rescue, Edison said receiving the letters made him remember that there was life beyond the mine shaft.

He said that he told himself, "'Come on, stay alive' - but it was very hard to stay alive. The letters showed the world is here, it's good to be back to life."

In a series of photographs taken with a camera sent down to Edison during our written correspondence, he also reveals a glimpse of a life spent in darkness.

Unlike the other trapped men who turned to God, Edison's salvation was exercise. The photographs show the lengths he went to in a bid to overcome his demons.

Edison ran up to eight kilometres a day in the sweltering humidity of the mine. In a bid to improve his stamina, he took to towing a wooden crate behind him.

"I think these photographs are really a life testimony, and I want everybody to understand it. It's not to show off, I'm not looking to get famous by running. I think that running on the surface again…and seeing the beach. I think nothing compares to this."

His reputation for running, along with his love of Elvis Presley, have led to invitations to attend this year's New York City marathon in November and to visit Presley's Graceland mansion in Tennessee.

Despite what he has been through, Edison said he does see a better future for himself and his family.

"Now there is light, then there was none. There I had to go around with a flashlight. But now I'm really happy to be back in my country, and with this light. I thought I would not be coming back. But I did, so I'm very happy."

Of his personal, remarkable journey, he said: "I think that now I'm more human. I think I'm loving everybody more, I believe in touching people. I think I love myself much more."
