What frustrates me is the so called pundits pon TV talking about &quot;when the employment picture eventually improves&quot;.

With manufacturing jobs fleeing to China and service related jobs heading to India, the job picture will never improve. America is bankrupt and it is beginning the slide to third world status but people are in denial.

The US will recover...The worlds seacond largest economy Japan has stagflated for a decade and a half in the 90's..

You got it RichD,

The people in government have a job, a good job with the best healthcare and pension benefits they could pass for themselves.
Why should they care about the people who only vote for them. They don't pay them the big money it takes to get elected and into keeping those good jobs.

Besides, they too work for the big corporations and the wealthy who are doing just fine. The Dow is at 11000. Everyone got bailed out.

No government can do much about the globalization of capitalism. If a company can make its products in China and not in a high labor cost country , that company stands to beat any competition in those high labor countries and the loser closes its doors.

There is nothing that beats slave labor for holding down costs and increasing profits astronomically and in a way that the high labor countries have no answer for.

Oh yes there are those few thousand service sector jobs that Wahalla seems to think will pull Jamaica right up and fix everything but the reality is that the jobs in the service sector cannot make up for all the high skilled manufacturing jobs lost to globalization.

It is the inevitable fate of capitalism. It is COMPETITIVE and nothing but competitive.
When you can't compete, you close up shop.

There may be another economic bubble coming to bring a false lift to the U.S./ world economy but no one I've heard, seen or spoken to has any idea what that may be.

We are in one big capitalist race to the bottom and only some will be in jobs that are local and/or which are not affected by globalization. A whole heap of people in the States and in poorer countries are looking at really hard times that will last a really long time.

As said, our children will be the first generation in the United States to not live as well as the previous one.

We are on the edge of a big slide downward as capitalism reaches its limits.

The rich will be incredibly richer and the poor will be unbelievably poorer and far more numerous as this all goes downhill.

Things will get a whole lot worse with the loss of what little democracy we have before the change to what works for the vast majority of people which is as it should be in a truly democratic society.

The whole world economy is currently in dire straits,and sliding downhill pretty rapid,the people are not in denial,the average geezer is feeling it in his pocket,his private pension all but wiped out,the price of his house worth a lot less than it did 3 years ago, his retirement plans scuppered by the recession.

The people who are in denial are the governments,they dare not tell the populace the extent to which the recession will take effect,otherwise there would be mass riots in major cities all over the world,they talk sparingly about cuts,and other recession prevention measures,but the real story will eventually emerge in a year or two down the line,..and it wont be pretty.

While this may well be true in many cases, consider that unemployment compensation is what? half of your usual pay? If you're not making enough to begin with when employed then you absolutely must find some way to augment unemployment pay.
If they were not working under the table they would still be collecting unemployment so it makes little difference to the average taxpayer. Employers also contribute to that collected money.

The hard fact is that there are not enough jobs available for the numbers of people out of work because the economy is collapsing. Even were there enough jobs, which there will not be for years if at all, there will not be enough jobs that pay a LIVING wage.

You cannot support a family on Walmart or McDonald's type wages.

But then it is always so much easier to blame the victims of the collapsing economy and not the 5-10% at the top who own 80% of everything when you are one of those whose income security is not completely shot or not at risk.

It is what that 5-10% at the top spend so much money to brainwash people into doing and it is not too dissimilar to what the Tea Party people have been trained to do.

Blame the victims and the perpetrators can walk free.


You gotta admit, the propaganda mill does a helluva job.
