I ordered something online from Target.

The order came last night but it was wrong.

I called to have it taken care of.

Straight away, I recognized the woman’s accent as Jamaican.

Was very nice and helpful.

She said they’d take care of the error but the credit couldn’t be issued until the end of the month and I would have to call back to initiate it ...

That seemed weird to me. I wanted a verification of all this and asked her for some type of confirmation # for this call or order revision.

She said there was none.

That made me uncomfortable. When calling back, I’d have to tell the whole story all over again. Who’s to say they’d believe any of this when I call back at the end of the month ... ?

So I asked her for her name - <span style="font-style: italic">“Jackie”</span>, she said.

I asked for her last name – said she couldn’t give it. I asked for her last initial – she gave me that.

Finally, a wee bit frustrated, I asked, <span style="font-style: italic">“Well can you at least tell me where you are – where am I calling?”</span>

To my surprise, she said, <span style="font-style: italic">“Jamaica.”</span>

“Really?”</span> I asked.

She said yes and that she was in Kingston.

I asked her how long had she been working for Target – 3 years.

Boy did I have a much needed laugh last night.

Like most people, I’ve often had need to call a customer service office and I’ve spoken to people alllllll over the world. First I’m ever getting someone back home.

I couldn’t help but wonder whether or not she was being paid a fair wage.

Out sourced work to Jamaica... good...nice to hear something good for a change...No doubt in my mind that Jamaicans can out perform any one in the world if they are paid reasonably for their labour....

but if I was into that sort of thing I would set up outwith Killsome... Malvern or Mandiville...

Listen to Mike Fennel of Commonwealth game fame speak and that is teh type of voice you need to sort out problems...!

Also Yuri, back in the day was my early teens I worked in the family business during summer hols. My Mom bought some package from a company that provdes help for Excel, Word etc for her admin staff. I remember one Lady telling me I just got help desk in Kingston, Jamaica.

Also remember her saying how professional and helpful the person was the only thing she said was her understanding the accent, but when she asked him to slow down he did and was clear sailing. I think this has been going on for some time....this is more than six years ago.

sometimes when you call united healthcare you get jamaica straight away;

If the idiots get their way with the patwa upgrade even that the country will lose.

They will have to import English speakers for the tourism industry and probably for the call center work too.
Just as they did for the former clothing industry that was there.
