Need friends to go with me---who wants a really good scare?

Okay. I'm not sure where to put this. It's not exactly a bashment...

Anybody from the Philadelphia area (or maybe the NJ area or the metro NYC area) want to meet for a Halloween holiday fright night at <span style="font-weight: bold">Terror Behind The Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary</span> (Philadelphia, PA)?
It has to be either this weekend or next; after that, they close up the show until next year's season.

I need a really good shaking-up, a serious blood-curdling thrill, something to break me out of this seriously debilitating depression I've been drowning/suffocating in... Anybody want to have some good scare fun? Mr Witchy can't do this with me, because they specifically warn that seizure-prone people should not enter (strobes, loud noises, people and things jumping out at you, etc). It won't be much fun if they have to cart him off in an ambulance.
Not for him, anyhow.


And if it's too late to make plans on such short notice... would anybody care to commit to spending one night there in the springtime should I win the grand prize for their new <span style="font-weight: bold">Terror Behind The Walls ALONE</span> contest? (click on the hotlink to read the contest rules and prize description)
That is, I'll ENTER it ALONE this weekend or next, if I can find 5 friends to commit to the grand prize overnight in springtime 2011.


This <span style="font-style: italic">has</span> to be more fun (for me) than electroshock therapy.

Not even just the ruin of a prison? It's a historical landmark site.

Does this change things (make you likelier to go) if you aren't paying?
Is it that that's the sticking point? Or it is voluntarily entering even a historical prison ruin the sticking point?

I REALLY REALLY WANNA GO, but I'm terrified enough to need friends to go with me.

I said I'd buy dinner, but I don't think I said where I'd take everyone for supper. Derek's Restaurant in Manayunk . The owner, Derek Davis, is a lifelong childhood friend of mine, we grew up together since kindergarten. His place on Main Street is stoosh, but it gets rave reviews because the food and drinks are so divine!

even if u nuh find nuhbaddy on here fi go wid u, consider still going. u may make a friend in line or find smaddy a clutch on to u while oonu scream bloody murder and bond over di shared experience

I just might do that.

I REALLY WANNA GO to this, this year. It;s important to me. (dunno why - but it appears to be)

I also put the word out in FB to my old childhood friends in Philly that I want to come there and will any of them please meet me there... we had our 30th high school reunion last Thanksgiving, and a lot of us keep in regular touch on FB.

My old high school bf offered to go with me (meet hubby and me there at the prison, or somewhere - maybe his house), go thru the fright show with me, and then we could go eat at our friend Derek's restaurant... maybe others of our class will hook up at the restaurant even if they don't want to go into the prison.

But I feel kinda funny taking my old bf into such a place... it'll bring back a whole lot of teenage memories that may be bet left buried and forgotten, you know? Besides the old bf isn't in the best of health, himself - brittle diabetes has taken it's toll on him badly. Again - I don't wan the fun to end in an ambulance ride to the hospital! What if he has a heart attack in there with me?

Oh, why am I the ONLY person I know who loves to be scared (literally) more than half to death?! What is wrong with me???


I am considering entering the ALONE competition... entering the cell block totally alone for a private version of their horror show... Just biting the bullet and doing it before I think too much about it and chicken out, you know? 'e heard that the ALONE show is the scariest - the actors all call your name, call you by name, and scream your name while you're in there in the dark. It is said to add a whole new layer of thrill/creepiness to the experience.
But what if I get seriously scared? And I'll be ALL ALONE with no friend for backup? Then what... It's fun if they scare me to the point of peeing up my pants, but it's not fun if I actually do so! And if my asthma kicks in and I have an asthma attack while in there all ALONE? Again - not gonna be fun to go out on an EMS stretcher and a bus (ambulance) ride to the hospital.

BUT... if I manage to do it all ALONE..... he he he
Then I have proven to myself that I CAN do it all ALONE!!

I really want to be scared out of my mind this year. I want to be scared out of 10 years of life. I need the thrill; the adrenaline shot; the 'kick'.

Darn it! This is the point at which my trusty pal, my best friend, my dog, Midnight, used to come in. He normally would have gone in with me, bolstering my courage. But now he's gone... sigh

I can't make it all the way from Cali to Philly, but I sure do hope that you go, and as Frenchie said if you can't find someone to go with, maybe you will meet someone...

The last time I felt sooooo compelled to go to an event, I met my son's father... not that meeting him was the highlight of my life but my son sure is

Bandanna, you and FrenchTickla have both given me the same advice several other non-jcommers have: If I feel so strongly, just go and go with whatever happens. (hopefully it won't be a heart attack or an asthma attack )


So hubby and I are gonna make our plans for this weekend:
the regular historical day tour of the old prison ruin on Saturday
early supper with my parents, and perhaps my aunts and uncles as well
return to the prison for the nighttime Terror Behind The Walls - which, if I'm really lucky, I will do 'ALONE'
spend the night at a high school friend's house in her spare bedroom (she lives 'round the corner - and in the same housing development - from/as the house in which I grew up)
meet another high school friend at the cathedral for Mass on Sunday
hubby &amp; I go home

And if it doesn't work out for this weekend in enough time, I have enough time to plan this same for next weekend.


I entered my name for the Alone drawing for this week, and will continue to enter once each day 'till Saturday morning, before I leave to go down there... And I will do the same for each day next week.

It is said that the Alone tour is far creepier than doing it with the group in line near you, because the actors all use your name... they call your name creepily, they address you by name, they insert your name into the story lines of the show. *shudder*

I wonder what &quot;Steeeeeeee-ph-aaaa-niiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... Steeeeeeee-ph-aaaa-niiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Blaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiine&quot; / *bloodcurdling scream* sounds like reverberating in the darkness throughout the old prison ruin?
