Hi, I have a neighbor who is Jamaican, and I thought maybe this forum would help me understand her better. We talk alot about plants, mostly what she grows in her back yard. I don't understand why she would eat plants that are poisonous, as she told me she has to keep a needle with her in case of a reaction. I worry about the plants coming into my yard and my animals eating them and getting sick or worse, but I think she just thinks I'm crazy. What do you think? I know I am setting myself up here, but what the heck.

Re: My neighbor
[
quote=neighbor]One is Ackee which I know is traditional for Jamaicans but when you look it up, it was actually banned in the US awhile back because it is so poisonous if not cooked right. Another is Casava, which I don't remember if the root is toxic, but the plant is. [/quote]cassava?
You mean yucca??
The one that is available in most food stores?
Well it would have poisoned all of Latin america and Africa.
As for ackee dont worry about it.
No animal will eat it
And it probably will not poison.
Them.
I thought she was really eating poison I didn't realize it involved the Jamaican. National dish??
If people can smoke a toxic substance as tobacco they can eat anything.
Do you worry about the millions of latin americans who eat yucca too??
I wonder if my neoghbor worry about my diet too?
