I hope he'll push through and fully recover....

A star athlete and student at Coppin State University is struggling to live after he was shot near campus.
Andrea Fujii explains the victim's mother heard the whole thing over the phone.
He was walking home from the grocery store, talking to his mom, when someone fired. The athlete was able to walk toward his friends to get to the hospital.
The Coppin State University athletics page highlights Dale Dunn, a senior, star athlete with a 4.0 GPA. That didn't stop a gunman Tuesday night near the Mondawmin Mall.
"Tears came into my eyes, just to run into the emergency room and scream out, `I need help for my friend. He's been shot,'" said Darron Mills, friend.
Dunn's friends drove him to the hospital, bleeding from the gunshot wound in his chest.
"I was trying to talk to him in between, but he was--he could barely talk. He was sweating," said Jason Bell.
"Why this guy? Why the same guy that everybody goes to on campus when they need help, when they need tutoring?" Mills said.
Dunn was returning home after shopping at Shoppers. Often Coppin students will walk there because it's only five blocks away from campus.
"I didn't know that you couldn't walk to the grocery store just to get something to eat. It's ridiculous that coming back from the grocery store, you can't just walk around here," Bell said.
Dunn was shot blocks away from the new sports complex while talking on the phone with his mom.
"And then his mom heard a ruckus in the background and then his mom called a friend and said, `Check on Dale,'" said Winston Whittinghl, Coppin alum and friend.
The university released a statement, saying, "The off-campus incident is uncommon, given that Coppin State University has one of the lowest incidences of crime of all University System of Maryland institutions. The entire University community is saddened by this event."
"Dale of all people--because he's a 4.0 guy, student-athlete, all-American--to see him hit like that...everyone was just like, `Dale? Of all people?' Such a good person," Bell said.
Dunn's friends who have seen him in the hospital says doctors seem hopeful about his recovery.
Some Coppin students say the university and city should install better lighting between the campus and Mondawmin Mall, where students often walk.
