Never one to be a conspiracy theorist, I do wonder about this latest development:

<span style="font-size: 8pt">WASHINGTON — Two packages containing explosives, shipped from Yemen and addressed to synagogues in Chicago, were intercepted in Britain and Dubai, setting off a broad terrorism scare on Friday that included the scrambling of fighter jets to accompany a passenger flight as it landed safely in New York. Janet Napolitano, secretary of the Homeland Security, said on Saturday morning that the plot “has the hallmarks of Al Qaeda.” NYT </span>

C'mon now . From Yemen? To synagogues? In Chicago, Obama's home town? Um, as a Friday weekend cliff hanger before mid-term elections?? Oh puhleeze

How bad?
At the outside there might be a few thousand al-Qaeda out there but they are so tough so fiendishly clever, so capable of wrecking the United States that it requires the United States to spend a trillion dollars a year to protect us from them.

They have no air force (okay, they borrow airplanes) no nuclear weapons, no chemical biological weapons, no planes or boats to invade us with, yet somehow a few thousand guys with AK-47s are a threat to the only super power on the planet?

Give me a break.
