How Do Things Like This Happen

I have a couple of cousins who are what I would call freeloaders. Both in their 40s and both still sponging off my aunts and uncles (until recently). Both would stay home all day and drink, and smoke up and watch TV.

Well over the last year I find out that one has become a manager at a nuclear generating station and is making big money. As far as I know he might of just made it through high school by the skin of his teeth but certainly has no post secondary education. How the hell does he end up with a management position? \o/

The other cousin apparently got a job training race horses and he too is making some big money. Now I have never known him to have a horse or even ride a horse in his life. So how can he be an expert on training horses. \o/

I do not speak to these two cousins often as there was some bad feelings on my part on how they were taking advantage of my aunts and uncles.

If it sounds as if I am jealous of them, I am! How can some people just coast through life and have these things fall in their lap?

Milo I feel your pain. Sometimes life just doesn't seem fair and I guess it's not suppposed to be.

Your cousins probably have plenty street/survival skills coupled with their charming ways that allow dem to be successful when they feel like it

I had the same conversation today with a friend about two people who are managers but dem noh kno A from Bullfoot bout managing
its the other employees who are down on the bottom rung who have to help them
but from what mi understand dem get inna dat position because of who dem know up in the hiearchy (sp).

well mi doan know bout the kotching but sponging is hard wuk fee true iieena, it getting harda and harda to sponge off mi granpere....good ting mi shin tik like haki says....cho!! is a blastid disgrace sometimes how I have to continually beg him the $$ fore he frees it up

What kills me is that I have a cousin who came to the US about 13 years ago. Went to college for about 2 days... dropped out... got a job for a bout 10 days..quit.

She has 5 children ..she stays at home does not work..husband does odd end jobs as a handy man. Yet, all her 5 children are well fed, clothed and in private school, courtesy of government welfare.

Don't be bad mouthing socialism until you understand what it is and what it isn't.
In a socialist economy EVERYBODY works. Under capitalism you have very rich that never work.
In a capitalist economy you have widespread unemployment, underemployment and lack of opportunity that creates the necessity for welfare and social programs and some people may take advantage of that but you are raising a big fuss about a relative handful of poor people who found a way to sucker the system that is so hostile to them. The poor are not the problem . Not even the dishonest poor.
The problem are not enough jobs, an insufficient social safety net ( standard under socialism) , home foreclosures, hunger, unemployment, poverty, drugs, crime.

And you want to blame the victims.

It's not what Jesus would do is it?.

Why are you not exorcised about corporate welfare that costs us TWICE what country spends on welfare for the poor . Does that make sense?

The truth of things does give some people real bad headaches. What happens is the reality of things runs into what they erroneously believe to be true.
It's called cognitive dissonance.

intolerant of intolerance and hypocrisy, principled, verbose and a defender of the poor and oppressed.

You need to concentrate on not believing that the people on welfare and unemployment benefits are what is wrong with the country and the society.

You're blaming the victims.
it's the sort of thing right wing ideologues and talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh would believe and say out loud.
it is what the very rich who run the country and who are the real problem would have you believe and evidently you do.

To be fair you will now have to put up two posts dealing with corporate welfare since we, the taxpayers, give TWICE as much of our tax money to corporations like McDonald's which are already very wealthy. After all, isn't that a far greater crime than a welfare cheat.?.

There is a matter of proportion which you seemed to have failed to consider.

I would say that I will try to be more pleasant BUT certain subjects do rile me and I am now at the age when I am almost expected to be yelling at the neighborhood kids to get the hell off my lawn so don't get your hopes up.
Senior citizens all get a Cranky Card from AARP when they hit 65.
