Great news , thanks for bringing it to our attention.
I googled &quot;Nocera hydrogen MIT&quot; and got numerous sources on this breakthrough.
Evidently Nocera has developed a catalyst to replace the very expensive platinum catalyst that up until now was used to separate out the oxygen which leaves just the development of a cheaper hydrogen catalyst to get things going full tilt towards clean cheap,, plentiful and infinitely renewable energy supplies.
Nocera and most articles did say that even once the cheaper catalysts are developed that there will be some tough (but not impossible ) engineering problems to work on.

One article said that there already is a company with plans to get a Nocera-like system up and in production in two years.
With all the money and work being poured into this type of research all over the country, I'm sure much more efficiency and lowered costs will be achieved even before that company gets its product on the market.

For those who don't know it, this process separates H20 (water) into its two components hydrogen and oxygen using electricity which in this case is generated using the sun via solar panels already available and also continually being made more efficient. When you oxidize (rejoin with oxygen) the separated hydrogen by burning the only waste produced is.....water.
This fuel is perfectly clean both in the production and in the waste produced when it is burned.

If... and who knows what problems there may yet be ..they can get this working, it means an end to the pollution caused by the use of hydrocarbons ( oil, gas, coal ) and cheap electricity and power for the world as long as we have sunshine and water, in other words FOREVER.

It means no more drilling for oil, no more dead coal miners, no more mercury in our fish, no more airborne pollution, no more acid rain, the saving of oil for plastics production instead of car fuels that are using up what we have at a rapid pace.
No more catalytic converters in our cars to screw up, no more high home heating costs, electricity for all the poor of the world (a life changing thing) .
And all the other things I haven't thought of in these few minutes.

The possibilities are mind boggling.

MIT may hold one patent, but nothing stop others from development of another means of seperating the oxygen from tgr hydrogen and using both to operate an internal combustion engine.

Today or to power an hydrogen powered vehicle later.
The problem is tags world's education systems collectively refused to research it.

It reminds me of the nitrogen generating equipment that has been responsible for producing the fertilizer that feeds the developed world.

They still restrict the distribution of it to their selected fellow colonists.

Yet the dumb quasi intellects who are passing off themselves as educated are totally ignorant of this fact.
So while they wring their hands about world hunger to justify the population control in the colonies.
Instead of treating the solution they create myths sbd chase them.

Up until now the problem with using hydrogen as a fuel has been the high cost of the electricity used to crack the water and for use in cars, the difficulty of compressing hydrogen.
They can probably get around this with PV generated electricity if it can produce more hydrogen than it takes electricity to crack the water to get it and the world could run on electric cars .

MIT, if it comes up with something revolutionary, will not likely keep it secret or not make it available for small money. Besides the Chinese would do a little reverse engineering and steal it and sell it for less
Even if M.I.T. wanted to make a ton of money from the patent rights it would not be a problem because if the whole world converts to this, MIT could charge just $5.00 per user and make a huge fortune .

The oil companies and their investors will find some way to bury it, or stall it. Especially in view of &quot;Citizens United court ruling&quot; whe corporations can now freely buy off politicians.

The future is not in oil but in alternative fuels and sources of energy and the investors will be hopping on this to ras.

Besides, the professor has pretty much let out how he did it AND there are also a ton of people already working on ways to make hydrogen usable because it is an ideal fuel..

If yuh tink back, yuh can recall dat dis is not di first time ova di many years dat new energy saving innovations hav been introduced. Well, by di time it got buried in red tape or got bought out by di wrong people, it was too expensive to implement or dead on arrival. I am hoping you are correct about dis wan, an wi non get sold out as usual.
