An early morning church service turned deadly in Paradise, Westmoreland, on Monday, when praise and worship was halted, and grief emerged after a 61-year-old member was stabbed and chopped to death by another man who also injured three other persons.
The dead man has been identified as Norman Morales, a fisherman of the community.
Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that about 6:30 a.m., Morales was at the church in the presence of more than 10 other members when he was approached by another man.
It is said that the two exchanged brief words before an argument developed.
Further reports are that Morales was then stabbed and chopped several times all over his body by the man who pulled a knife and a machete. Other persons who tried to intervene were also reportedly attacked and left with knife injuries.
Morales was subsequently rushed to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other three people who were also injured were treated and released.
