Over the next 20 years, 400 million Chinese are expected to move from the countryside to the cities. Most of them go willingly, trying to get ahead. Many, though, are forced to the cities as local governments across the country are taking land from nearby and selling it to developers for quick profits.....................

Since the coming of cowboy capitalism to China and the shutting off of subsidies to poor farmers in the west of the country, they and their children have been moving east to the coast, the big cities and factory jobs.

In China you need permission from the government to relocate and many just pack up and become illegals within their own country.
A great many are exploited by their employers because they are often threatened with being turned in to the authorities.

China will be very interesting in the next 15-20 years but in the sense of the Chinese curse; "May you live in interesting times"

I predict another Chinese revolution within that time as the income disparities between the haves and have nots returns to pre-Mao levels again..

This is not uncommon in China as there is alot of land that is privately held that is not privately owned.. An issue with that the last congress addressed how to reconcile the private ownership with the constitution that prevents it.. there has been changes but laws of contract and tort are not fully resolved as they move towards private economy. (cuba interestingly did similar changes to allow the private owner ship of land in the 90's)... I watched a old building being demolished as the owners continue to run their buisness as dust and debris fell around them

the interesting things to note

is that in the west there is such a thing as compulsory purchace...something about eminate domain..
the other thing to note the lady husband runs a private buisness...
