Jermaine Jackson will not be able to get out of Africa any time soon because his passport has expired and current legal woes means he may not be able to get a new one. <span style="font-weight: bold">Jermaine owes thousands of dollars in back child support and until he pay up, he won't be issued a new passport</span>. The singer is currently in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in West Africa and will be waylaid there until he is able to find a solution to get him home. The mother of two of Jermaine's children got a child support, order back in May 2008, which required him to pay her $3,000 a month. According to TMZ, the 56-year-old went into arrears almost from the start and now owes Alejandra Oaziaza, $91,921.

California law states that if a person owes more than $2,500 in back child support, the State Department of Child Support Services automatically informs the FBI. The Feds then flag the delinquent parent's passport and once it expires, it can't be renewed until the person catches up on their payments. <span style="font-weight: bold">As Jermaine's passport expired during his trip, he will not be able to fly home until he pays the amount in full -- unless the American Embassy helps him out and issues him a temporary passport so he can return to America.</span> Jermaine married Alejandra in 1995 and have two children together, Jaafar, 14, and Jermajesty, 10. But bizarrely Alejandra also has three children with Jermaine's brother Randy who she was in a relationship with. The warring couple separated in 2004 but it was later discovered that Alejandra was still legally married to her ex-husband so the marriage was annulled.

Strange that America govt will not issue a new passport to a US citizen because he holds money in child support. Something seem wrong with that picture or perhaps the Jamaica Observer just a speculate or nuh know wey dem a sey....

Quite possible - I know here (Canada) the govt depts 'cooperate' with each other and if someone is owing back child support, they cannot be issued a passport -if the individual applies for one -his file has a flag on it to refuse processing based on that information.

Another thing is normally there is dificulty travelling abroad IF your current passport has less than 6 months left before expiring...

i though the country of issue would honour the passport up to a year after expiry

is he flying commercial? the local embassy should issue a temporary travel document.

Don't know about US but Canadian Embassies can if necessary issue a temp passport to allow emergency transport back home

he was not illegal...his problem is that the US passport expired n he needs a current one before the country will allow him to board a flight...i.e the country he is exiting...problem would seem to be that the US has attached passports like how states have attached ur DL to ur child support status....they will not renew until his payments r current...the airline will not board him with a expired passport n it would seem that now his 'attached' state wid PP office is part of his record...

nuff tings change dat people use fi tek fi granted an people dont find out until dem need a service....people who still deh pon green card need to know dat even a DUI could mek dem subject to deportation
