the family who raised her in CT is a large family and own several stores (read dem nuh poor)
The woman who raised her name Anne pettiway(sp) and her mugshot was shown from a drug related incident I believe.

I find the story intriguing,the biological parents must be estatic,however I find it odd that someone who was brought up in a family all their life should start to question their illegibility for being in that family,what possible reasons can there be for her to think " I dont belong in this family",no matter how badly your parents treat you you still accept them as your own,...you dont start casting around for evidence to incriminate them as your parents.....it just seems odd.Comment

Neuty, it happens more often than you think.....when I was a kid I never felt I belonged amongst all those blonde hair, blue, green eye family members....was not treated badly per se, but I was and still am different from them and not just in physical appearance, they think am strange and I think they
No one would answers my question about my Jamaican Father after the parents split and never even knew about him until I was about thirteen or so.
Stuff like why the hell dem kissing the blastid dog, why dem food taste so nasty
why are you washing your socks in the kitchen sink and this started as early as I can remember about four years old and other little stuff like that.
Now when I met my Jamaican family....I was almost eighteen I immediately felt a rapport.... (even though dem beggie beggie)fitted right in especially with the dog thing ..... I think there are snippets to this story that just has not been told, sometimes it is just a gut feeling that you do not belong.
When I was in University there was this girl who she confided to us that something does not seem right with her fitting in with family members, she was nineteen at the time turned out she was adopted from Trinidad/brought when she was bout 6 months old by tourist who were holidaying at the Hotel her grandmother worked. She was treated great, loving family but she said something was missing.
She said she has voiced her concerns before and finally they told her....sometimes it is just a gut feeling. She finally found her family in Trinidad and they thought they were doing the right thing, better life yadda yadda because they were poor....basically they just gave her away.
I did a thread once on genes.....sometimes you are just too differnt from family so you start questioning. I felt no affinity with my Maternal family.....but connected instantly when I met the jamaican family.....especially with being loving.....maternal family dem is some solid block a ice.....jammie family is pure love dem show you. Not saying the Maternal family do not love me....but their emotions too controlled.
Anyway I have rambled on enough
edited to add....yes I know my story little different....just trying to show that sometimes it is just a feeling of not belonging.....nobody abducted me

genetics are powerful in shaping one's instincts... there is just that instinct in us as humans to be close to our immediate family...the bond between mother and child is formed long before birth...studies have shown that even if mothers did not know what their newborns looked like they could identify their babies by their smell and the babies vice versa...i suppose once that bond between mother and child is broken the child grows up to adapt to its environs but a piece of itself just seems to be missing...
call it a phenomena if you will...Comment

....and Skelly sometimes the bond between Mother and child is never formed....trust me I know.Comment

BRIDGEPORT -- A woman who raised a girl grabbed as a baby from Harlem Hospital in 1987 surrendered to local police and the FBI late Sunday morning and now faces a federal kidnapping charge that could carry a life sentence.
Ann Pettway, a former city resident who now resides in Raleigh, N.C., will be presented before a magistrate judge Monday at the federal courthouse in Manhattan...
The kidnapping charge capped a furious 32-hour investigation that began around noon Saturday when Pettway appeared at a Boston Avenue pawn shop apparently hoping to turn jewelry into getaway money.
Although the pawn shop employee called police, Pettway was able to flee on foot before they arrived...
Once in custody, Pettway began being questioned about her role in the August 1987 kidnapping of Carlina White, who grew up in Bridgeport and attended local schools as Nejdra Nance...
The resulting media frenzy may have convinced Pettway to flee her Raleigh home and return to Bridgeport, where family members live and where she once resided.
In fleeing North Carolina, Pettway brought more attention to herself, since she is under the supervision of North Carolina parole authorities.
That's because she pleaded guilty last summer to stealing $130 in cash, a pair of men's pants and a scarf from her then-employer, Hudson Belk, a department store...

You guys are being unreasonable harsh,there are various reasons for a woman to kidnap a baby,she may have recently lost a child herself,in this case she raised the child as her own,her parenting skills leave a lot to be desired but we should reserve judgement until the full facts emerge about the state of the womans mind at the time of the kidnapping.Comment
