Do Entitlements (sp) tend to make a person take advatage (abuse) or take for granted (waste) the entitlement (sp)?

it could be nurture..but is not the existence of the entitlement nurturing the behavior.

I think there may often be more than what is considered "normal waste" because they have the security of knowing everything is going to be alright no matter how much screwing up they do before they finally get it together.
I'm not suggesting that everyone pisses it away and becomes a bum, but there is a certain amount of prestige that can be gained simply by riding on the coattails of your parents' accomplishments and associations. And again often but not always, just that entitlement alone can take one further than hard work. It's not fair but life isn't.
I think most people are successful because they want to improve their lot in life. Of course there are some who do what they do because they love it, but that is way, way less common. The truly fortunate ones are those who love it and make plenty loot with it.
As far as nature versus nurture, I used to believe in 90% nurture. Then I kept living and really took a look at what was going on around me and it turns out nature plays a stronger role than I had given it credit for.

And for an example of nature versus nurture, my parents adopted my brother when he was 3 months old. At that time, all they knew about his parents is that his mom was a student in Huntsville and his dad worked at the college.
Years later after he was told that he was adopted, he held some animosity towards his birth mom for giving him up. But in his 20s a few years ago, he finally decided to seek her out.
Having never met before, the first thing I noticed is that she seemed to have ths same heightened level of paranoia as he does. (Yes, that's a negative trait but it needed to be said.) Also, they are both ministers and had the same major in college. There are other things too, but the, taking almost the same path completely busted up my opinions about nurture over nature. It was surreal.

So when society is say entitled to a benefit/gift (whatever you call it) are they more prone to abuse it?

Yesterday, the question was posed to other smaddies during a water cooler discussion. Now understand that I am usually not invited to those discussions, as mi nu care bout Lindsay Lohan, them views on Politrixx, who in the dept sleeps wid who <--yes, them chat that ,who gets drunk, who a climb state dept ladder, who ahn who can/cyan teach...blah, blah,blah. Now the who and who can/cyan teach is always based on "grades" which we in the business knows is based on inflated grades (as kids "cant fail". We are currently in between semesters and the discussion of curves came up. Apparently, ex-bakrah curve fi im final and even with the curve im students still fail the final exam. So smaddy ask im fi analyze why that is <--mi know di person that ask im that did a throw word pon im cah that was im favourite go to line when im did a run tings
Anyhew... bakrah ahn di person ah go back ahn forth, forth and back. Dem wasnt getting anywhere. Finally, mi hear smaddy else in the convo say, "These kids do not value education and that is why they fail." That seem to work fi 1.2 seconds then the convo turn into why kids nu value education. After what seem like hours of round robin bout who, why, how, end of world these kids nu value education....smaddy seh, "ILP, what are your thoughts. You havent said anything. Do you agree that these kids do not value education?" So mi ansa, "Yes." ahn continue wid what mi was doing. I guess cah mi neva ellaborate (to be read: mi not even look up from what mi was doing ) the room draw silent. So di smaddy chuckle (nervously, fi what mi nu know ) ahn then proceeded, "Well, ILP what reasons do you think kids dont value education?" So mi ansa back, "I think they dont value it because they are <span style="text-decoration: underline">entitled</span> to it."
Unemployment insurance IS an entitlement. An it IS something you and I PAY INTO. It comes outta wi lickle trupance a mont time and when some higher-up sen yuh packing, you HAVE to claim it because you are ENTITLED to it. So in that case taking "advantage" of it is your RIGHT!
We pay into medicare, SS and other entitlement pgms soh unu waan tell mi sey wi fi feel a way fi tek advantage? Unu mussi mad. Dem a come outta wi packit as wi speak so when time fi mi callect ..callect I will. Mi noh si where abuse come in eida fi dese pgms.
Welfare is the only entitlement pgm mi can canisder people abusing ..di res a dem, Uncle Sam a mek wi pay outta wi yeye ball fah. Dem deh mi tink is what we EARNED!
