A pickaninny tanned to a crisp from working in the fields sitting on the side of the road with a big toothless grin chomping on watermelon probably because they don't have enough good teeth left to chew anything else. It's an image that seriously does not rub me the right way.

Honestly, I'd have to say there are probably fewer Black Americans who eat watermelon than anybody else in the country. The cafe at work had free watermelon one day as a nice gesture. (The owners are Korean.) They meant well but you know the black folks were exchanging glances like &quot;oh hell no&quot;. </div></div>

Oh dear.

I LOVE watermelon; can't get enough of it. And only NOW has the sensitivity of it been brought to my attention.
Watermelon doesn't have the same stigma attached to it in the UK - well, nowhere near as much as in the USA.
