...by internet`s provision to communication that enabled a common and shared acknowledgement by an overwhelming majority of being oppressed by a 28 year old regime and ultimately wanting to put an end to it.
Suddenly, the web by use of social networking providers such as facebook has now being revealed as a place used by citizens to rally a revolution against its mighty government.

Jamaica, hemmed and divided by a two party political culture for many more than 28 years will either be motivated likewise by the Arab North African demand for political change or if not, continue for another 50 years of singing and dancing between the dual masters, PNP and JLP.

An astute observation Q3210,

My bet is on another 50 years of the same old same old.
Jamaica along with the U.S will be among the last countries to go democratic.

IMO Jamaicans, in general, do not want serious change, preferring the devils they know regardless of how inept they are on an ongoing basis since independence.
They do not question the phony two party system but rather see it as having no alternative. In that respect, Jamaicans are not any different from the people of the United States. As in the United States, Facebook, Twitter and the web are reserved for empty chatter about the latest American Idol.

It is amazing what people can do one the trumpet`s sound is loud and clear along with the will to take heed and get up and stand up for rights.

Jamaica`s youth cannot be bothered, moreso complacent between a stick of weed or a flask of rum.

We got a Mike Manley for the only time within the past 50 years of social political awareness and moderate uprising against who was our Pharaoh, Hugh Shearer`s JLP govt 1967-1972.

What good has that done for Jamaica?

We can blame the Seaga-CIA, W can live in a world of denial for our failure to develop.
Manley, Seaga, Patterson, Miller and Golding are all dismal failures. Worst, we the people have given in to failure.
As I said, a spliff and a rum glass has dimmed our sight on what the world has seen as progress.

The smoke we inhale is a cross between American middle- class consumerism and US inner city junky culture.

Bob Marley must be lauhging his head off or weeping in dismay at the subjectivity and lack of Jamaican stridency as the world spins on by.
