You had it right the first time. If you take a good long look at U.S foreign policy you'd see that since 1917 it has been based on stopping the spread of socialism starting with the 1918? invasion of the new Soviet Union.

After WWII it really went after socialist revolutions , elected governments, reformers etc.
Pick up a copy of &quot;Killing Hope&quot; by ex_CIA William Blum or go to the website, read the free INTRODUCTION and perhaps the chapters on Guatemala in the 50's and the 80's to get a good beginning of an understanding of this foreign policy.

As for the &quot;irony&quot; of the U.S now being good friends with China, you have to understand that while China is ruled in a totalitarian manner by a party that CALLS itself communist the Chinese government, economy and society is in fact, quite capitalist with the government controlling some key industries. Were it truly a communist / or socialist nation and acted in the internationalist way that Cuba does, the United States would be very hostile to China.

Both Nkrumah and Lumumba would have broken the neo-colonialist relationship with the United States and the European colonialists, did what the Cubans did in reclaiming their natural resources and ended neo-colonial exploitation; the exporting of wealth to the First World imperialists.

The neo-colonialists still maintain control by ensuring that all of Africa remains underdeveloped and exporters of raw materials.

Even were Nkrumah and Lumumba to have gained control there is no way they could have developed into anything like serious economic powers because they would have been subjected to the kinds of things you can read about in &quot;Killing Hope&quot; or &quot;Rogue State&quot; (another Blum website) or by reading what you can of Noam Chomsky.

The United States has never cared about what kind of government a country has as long as it has a capitalist economy or in the case of the underdeveloped world, an exploitable economy.

Why else do you think the U.S has installed, maintained and always supported the worst dictators in the world? . It is always because they are and were pro-capitalist and anti-socialist.
How else can you explain the 50 year war against Cuba which alone has maintained a socialist economy?

Just returned from Havana.

Lot's of anticipation among the people down there regarding the upcoming 6th party congress this coming spring.

Everyone is agreed about one thing, big changes are on the way.

<span style="font-style: italic">Thomas Vallee, the presumed patsy, is just as interesting. The Chicago version of Oswald had suffered a severe concussion during the Korean War. When he got home he was in a bad car crash and suffered serious head injuries, which caused him to slip into a two-month coma. He was later diagnosed as mentally disturbed with elements of schizophrenia and paranoia.

The CIA later recruited him to train Cuban exiles to assassinate Castro. It was these connections which probably helped maneuver him to be in a warehouse overlooking President Kennedy's parade route for a scheduled visit to the Windy City.

After his arrest the police tried to track down his license plate. They found out they couldn't. The information was &quot;locked&quot;. Only the FBI could &quot;unlock&quot; it. </span>

Thanks for update MFM,

It has been many years since the last Party Congress and this one is long overdue and with the layoffs and allowing of small private businesses to stimulate the economy and other reforms and as you said this session is much anticipated by the people of Cuba.

The government is still between a rock and a hard place with needing to ease up on press freedoms, travel freedoms and the hardships that are affecting everyone in Cuba yet not letting down to the point that the ongoing U.S efforts to collapse the revolution are given too large an opportunity to succeed.

The hard life is causing a great many cases of corruption and a level of general dissatisfaction amongst the Cuban people that is growing as the generations change from hard-line and staunch supporters of Fidel and the revolution to the newer generation that wasn't in the fighting and which is seeing the hardships of today and not what was in the days of the Batista dictatorship.

AS we can all see it appears that the U.S government will never stop the embargo/blockade even with alleged liberal Obama as president until it has achieved its purpose which is ending Cuban socialism.

The U.S government has no greater fear than the example the success of socialism in Cuba would have on the already left turning countries in the hemisphere and indeed in the world, so the the embargo continues.

If, as many claim , socialism can't work, why then doesn't the U.S leave Cuba's people alone and just let Cuba's socialism fail on its own?
What better proof could there be?

The answer has to be obvious to anyone with a brain.
