If you have a woodpecker making holes in your house, it usually indicates that the bird hears bugs inside the wood and is trying to get at them. It's what they do, how they find food in rotten trees. It might be doing you a favor of sorts by letting you know that you might have an infestation, maybe termites or carpenter ants.
I had flickers (small woodpeckers) peck hell out of my cedar siding this summer and had to go up and fill the holes with a paintable silicone caulking and then paint over the patches. They won't peck the silicone. I didn't find any bugs but we have had carpenter ant problems before and maybe I just wasn't seeing them.
