TWO American fugitives, who have been in the island for the last two years after they sneaked in on a boat, were on Friday ordered deported when they appeared in Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
The men, Peter Chin and Caple Palmer, who are reportedly wanted in the United States for sexual assault, were held in January with two fraudulent drivers licenses.
However, both men pleaded guilty to illegal entry and possession of forged documents when they appeared before Resident Magistrate Georgianna Fraser and were fined $5,000, or 30 days on each charge. They are to be deported on payment of the fines or on expiration of their sentence.
Before the sentence was passed, attorney Oswest Senior-Smith who spoke on their behalf told the court to consider that the men had cooperated fully with the police and had owned up to their wrongs.
According to police reports, the men, who are originally from the states of Florida and New Hampshire, entered the island on a boat sometime in 2007 and were not granted clearance to land by an immigration officer.
The foreigners were, however, held this year with two Jamaican drivers licenses in fake names. Chin had a licence in the name 'Curtis Mark Royce', while Palmer had the name, 'Lamar Thompson Lloyd' on his drivers licence.
Both men were escorted to the Immigration Investigation Unit on January 23 by a team from the Organised Crime Investigation Division.
