this is too simplistic...

bigger forces play a big hand in where both the country &amp; the music has developed into as well-

No derek,I wasnt talking about teen culture,was talking about jamaican culture as a whole as that is where the music under discussion is/was created.

Who are the conscious reggae artistes in this decade? I still listen and buy reggae but I can't think of a single conscious artist in the mold of a Garnett Silk.

There is sooo much conscious reggae out there it is unbelievable.
Problem is the exact same thing as hip hop, there is nuff hip hop out there, real hip hop like it used to be talkin bout reality.

Ting is big corporations have bought out the small label, bought up radio stations where these good muziks would be played, bought up the venues where these same artists would perform. They then put in rules that if you want a contract you have to say this or that, an chat bout blk women a kinda way. If you don't have those dutty lyrics yuh cyaan get on out radio and yuh cyaan sing inna wi venue dem.

So without all the publicity of good muzik, these same conglomerates uld big up de duttiness and ignorant ppl stawt fi like de slackness and it became cool and the in thing.

It is also a part of their mind control program and it is working very well.

it's about conscious reggae music...not about judging someone's personal life...

so far i have not heard of any of these artists being criminals or child molestors....

jah cure is another artist who makes conscious music...
obviously he was convicted of rape- but that is no guarantee that he committed the crime...there are endless incidents of wrongly accused persons serving time

So is mine,...however,it depends on how you define &quot;Jamaican culture&quot;,or rather,what defines jamaican culture.
The kind of music I/we were brought up on seems to be a minority music now,and I daresay by the time I was old enough to appreciate that kind of music it too had replaced something else that had also become minority music,....that is the way it is,things change,tastes change,and new generations taste in music are different than the older generation,that doesnt mean it is not a part of the culture because it may be new,and the lyrics are lewd.
