I know most people here don't gravitate toward the International News forum but the subject of FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) or female circumcision came up.
This operation usually involves the removal of the labia majora (outer lips) and the clitoris.

Franksterr posted the quote at the top to which I would rather have women respond.
Is what he says true? or is it as I think that removal of the clitoris has a devastating effect on a woman's sexuality ?

Thank you SueSumba. I appreciate your taking the time to respond.
In much of the literature I have read on FGM, it says that it is done to prevent a woman from getting much pleasure out of the sexual act so as to limit her having sex outside of the marriage.
Given that men are just as likely or more so to cheat on their wives, some sort of equal treatment should be accorded the husbands of wives who are forced to undergo clitoridectomies.

In the case of Franksterr castration to prevent his passing of defective DNA on to future generations, would seem to be in order for the good of womankind.

JCakes, from what i've read and the pictures i've seen, it's barbaric. there is only an opening for urine/menstrual blood. the man bursts this opening for intercourse when he gets his virgin bride.

OH! Is that all it is? I somehow thought it was a painful sometimes fatal operation practiced in backward male-dominated societies to keep women in line.

(are the words backward and male-dominated redundant?)

BTW, Wahalla says that the Barbarians didn't do this sort of thing. They were too civilized, too humane to mutilate their wives and daughters
