Four persons killed in night of terror in Negril
Residents of communities in Negril, Westmoreland are trying to come to terms with the killing of four persons by marauding gunmen between Sunday night and early Monday morning.
Among the persons murdered is a Judge's Orderly.
The drama began unfolding minutes after 10 Sunday night and ended in the early hours of Monday morning.
Those killed are 20-year-old Judge's Orderly Ashwane Samuels of Hanover, 21-year-old construction worker Dwayne Taylor of St. Ann and cook shop operator 29- year-old Eaton Morris and a customer.
It is reported that about 10 o'clock, Mr. Taylor was sitting at shop in Red Ground, Negril with other patrons when men armed with guns and machetes walked up.
“They came on the porch and they said everybody should go down on their face. My friend was sitting right at the step and before he could go down they shot him in his head and they fired three more shots where everybody was on the ground and another old man was hit,” said one of the victims.
“They started asking where are all the expensive phones. They took everybody’s phone, fired a whole heap of shots and left,” he said.
The gunmen then went next door to a mini mart where they again robbed all the customers and the owner of $45,000 cash and $80,000 worth of phone cards.
Then minutes after 4:00 gunmen again struck at another shop on Nampriel Road also in Negril where they shot the owner and a customer then robbed them before fleeing on foot.
Both persons died.
Mr. Samuels was found dead beside his vehicle on a dirt road in Grange Hill close to 2:00 Monday morning.
He had multiple gunshot wounds to the head but the police say they have not established a motive for his killing. -
