The project to create an underground highway from Florida to Haiti has commenced. It is not a new project. Construction for this project has been in effect since 2009. I just noted that the leg from Haiti to Jamaica follows a fault line...

I also suspect that it crosses a couple other tectonic fault lines....

Also wouldnt it be cheaper to build the line parrell to Cuba on Cuba it self ?????

And then take a branch line from Cuba to Jamaica ?????

The Chunnel a technical success is a financial disaster...

I spent 5 months in the Faroes last year... and those guys love tunnels through granite/ basalt undersea and all kinds... I bloody hated them.. the longest one was 14 klicks ...I am claustrophobic so hated each time I had to go through a tunnel... However the point that I like ot make is the geology of the Faroes lends itself to tunnels.. Being igneous rock.. There is technical difficulties associated with boring sedimentary rock that makes the cost prohibitive....And as there is alot of lime stone ????? Lime stone tends to have caverns, faults, sediments Still they pumped 200 m3 of sea water a day... But there is that big assed tunnel between Switzerland and Italy...

The Union of Everett interstate route number assigned to the tunnel is I-95U standing for Interstate 95 Underwater. The portion of the planned Caribbean Sea Tunnel, will span from Miami, Florida to Cap-Haitien in Haiti, a total of 600 miles of tunnel set at the bottom of the sea floor. I-95U will feature a rest stop every 50 miles containing fuel stations, food, restrooms and fire/medical/police centers. Everetti police stations will be located every hundred miles which would be used to respond to car accidents and other incidents. Fire/rescue and EMS stations will be located every 50 miles at each rest stop. I-95U will have a speed limit of 75 miles per hour, which will be enforced electronically rather than have police patrols. The tunnel will have three lanes of traffic for both the west bound and east bound sides, totalling six lanes. In addition to the road for cars, there will be three railroad lines, two of which are regular train lines and one will be part of the Maglev system as the Caribbean International Highway Line also called the I-95 Line.

I-95U is a concept tunnel as part of a global architecture test for a plan for a global highway that spans the Earth, originally conceived in the 1990s. If the 600 miles tunnel succeeds, it may lead to the planning stages of the global highway system.

Construction
<span style="font-weight: bold">Currently, 110 miles of the CIH-1 tunnel have been completed, spanning from Miami, Florida to the CIH-1/CIH-2 Interchange point.</span> Construction involves the use of a massive crane barge which carries each of the 660 foot long sections of tunnel and lowers them into the water where they will be locked and sealed in place. Each tunnel section is 660 feet long, 140 feet wide and 25 feet tall, totalling 4,800 tunnel sections to be placed under the water. There are currently four barges working, each carrying two tunnel sections. A total of eight sections are laid a day, totalling one mile in distance added to the tunnel every 24 hours. Tunnel sections are produced and constructed on land in large warehouses.

and whats the purpose of this? whos going to enforce the road rules/laws? is this an attempt to fuel more illegal immigrants entering the US?
waste of money if you ask me,,The Ambassador Bridge connecting Canada to the USA is about to fall into the St.Clair river and there spending money on this?
and the Americans are having enough problem keeping the bean squeezers from Mexico out---great, now the haitians dont have to ride on tire tubes

wouldnt the money be better spent building a high speed underground train from LA to New York? or New York to London---HAITI?

This is an obvious bulls--- story. Uunno really tink US taxpayer gwine pickup money to build underground tunnel to Cuba/Haiti/Jamaica. Did they just discover a lifetimes supply of black gold(i.e. oil) in those countries. No - not going to happen. I seen this identical story on a bunch of obscure sites - but no reputable news site. It is a tall tale.

It all does seem strange. Wahalla made several good points about potential tectonic problems and the idiocy of running the tunnel underwater right alongside the long coastline of Cuba instead of coming ashore, running above ground the length of the island and then reentering the sea to get to Haiti.

Also why would the U.S be doing this given the 50 year war with Cuba ? Did the Cubans grant permission to have this U.S project done in their territorial waters? I doubt it.

Too much doesn't make sense here.


Here in Massachusetts we have the Cape Cod Canal that separates Cape Cod from the rest of the state and in order to get out on the Cape during the summer, you have to endure long lines of traffic to cross the two bridges over the canal onto the cape.

Some bright entrepreneur came up with car window stickers that read;
&quot;Cape Cod Canal Tunnel Pass&quot; which supposedly gets you through the tunnel, onto the Cape and avoiding all the regular traffic which is great except.

That tunnel does not exist either.
