i saw a picture in di Star whe day bout dis 12pod ackee eena one dat dis man pick...mi was more interested in y di pod colour was yellow dan di fak seh it was 12 pod in one...so u seet,...people a force open ackee...if dem a use embalming fluid pon fish , y we tink dem naw force open ackee

More deaths from ackee poisoning
There have been 194 suspected cases of ackee poisoning in Jamaica with 23 deaths.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Ministry of Health, downtown Kingston, recently, Director of Health Promotion and Protection in the Ministry of Health, Dr Eva Lewis Fuller, said all parishes have been affected by the outbreak. However, those in the north-east region have been more seriously affected.


She said the Ministry has been investigating some unusual characteristics of the current outbreak.

&quot;It is not following the pattern that we are used to in the old days, when it affected mainly children under five years of age and was evenly distributed between men and women,&quot; she said.

She explained that <span style="font-weight: bold">60 per cent of those with suspected ackee poisoning are men between the ages of 25 and 44 years</span>. &quot;We are currently carrying out more tests on the ackee itself, in collaboration with scientists who normally do tests for the trade, and we are also looking at the metabolites or the breakdown products of the hypoglycin in humans. The government chemist is looking into doing those tests for us,&quot; Dr Lewis Fuller said.

Symptoms of ackee poisoning include vomiting, stomach cramps or abdominal pains, dizziness, diarrhoea and sweating. Persons experiencing these symptoms should immediately seek medical attention, and should have a sweet drink while on their way to the health centre or hospital.

J kid, by throwing that can out, you may have done the right thing.. Anyhow, earlier in the year I found myself with an older tin among three tins, all Grace products and pondered about throwing it out because it was two years older.. I defied commosense and prepared it and hoped for the best that 2 years old with GRACE should be OK ...

It tasted OK, me and wifey survived and I am here writing this.. I gather from this that checking dates on cans are important and tin ackee maybe safer than buying prepared akee at home if you dont know the source of the fruit''.. Btw, I've tried &quot;Goovernor's Choice&quot; and &quot;Jamaica's Pride&quot; and they are both giving Grace a run for the money...

Yes J, I can undastan where yu commin fram. I took a chance and survived an cause a dat, I think the canners of akee should be forced to put <span style="font-weight: bold">&quot;a best before date&quot;</span> pan dem cans..

Mi noticed dat Evan a catch har fraid now ! - All she have fi do is verify dat di date on di can is within the current Year. It stamped pan ida de top or di bottom... It's a shame how I LOVE akee.

Yuh raising a good point here, but mi ah goh mek likkle trouble now.

How wi know sey some ah dem tin ackee whe imported from other countries/region, such as Mexico, an Asia, noh hav un-scrupulous people ah handle dem? Wi hav seen in di past whe manufacturers whe out fi mek money at any cost, wi expose di unsuspecting public tuh all kina tings. Dem wi even re-package old stuff an stamp di wrong date pan ie!
