On a serious note and something no one has mentioned is the fact that the womb Is a dangerous place for inner city babies. The infant death mortality rate for poor inner city babies is often triple the national average and equal to the infant death mortality rates in many Third World countries . (NOT Cuba)

This is due to poverty, to our wonderful economic system, to racism to the fact that inner city women do not get the prenatal care that is necessary for healthy babies and neither do they get the proper nutrition for a pregnant woman.


We all must remember when most of the right wing crazies go on about the &quot;right to life&quot;, what they really mean is the right to BIRTH. After that they don't care what happens to those babies.

WOW.. that is a high number for just one State.. makes my heart hurt really bad...

I had a girlfriend who used abortion as a form of birth control.. she must have had 4 by the time we were 20. Unfortunately after the last one (#8) she almost died.. waited too late..Dr. punctured something and now she has been wearing a bag and will for the rest of her life..

I find that billboard so de-meaning even if you have statistics to relate it back to, its not just happening in the AA community.. I would have been more respectful of it if all nationalities were presented..

NEW YORK (AP) — An outdoor advertising company has taken down<span style="font-weight: bold"> an anti-abortion billboard that pictured a black girl along with the tagline, <span style="font-style: italic">&quot;The most dangerous place for an African-American is in the womb.&quot;</span> </span>Some residents had said they found the billboard offensive, and members of the black community were especially outraged by it.

A spokesman for Louisiana-based Lamar Advertising, Hal Kilshaw, said that while the company respects the right to freedom of expression, the decision to take down the billboard Thursday night was for &quot;public safety.&quot; He said waiters and waitresses at a restaurant in the building where the billboard was placed had been harassed.

The Rev. Al Sharpton praised the decision and canceled plans to protest the billboard Friday. The civil rights activist said the billboard &quot;depicted black women in an unfair way.&quot;

The billboard was placed in the busy Soho neighborhood of Manhattan by the group Life Always as part of a national campaign tied to Black History Month. The group said its message highlights Planned Parenthood's &quot;targeting of minority neighborhoods.&quot;

Planned Parenthood called the ad a &quot;condescending effort to stigmatize and shame African-American women.&quot;

Life Always said in a statement that it &quot;strongly disagrees&quot; with Lamar's decision to remove the billboard. The organization said &quot;the intent of the board is to call attention to the tragedy and the truth that abortion is outpacing life in the black community.&quot;

And I'll repeat this because it bears repeating:
Right To Lifers should be called Right To Birthers because once those babies are born to poor single mothers those Right To Lifers do not care one bit about what happens to those babies.
These are the same extremist right wingers who are against adequate welfare services for these babies, health care, prenatal care, safe housing and adequately funded inner city schools.
