A well-known Kingston lawyer has been struck from the Roll of attorneys entitled to practice in Jamaica by the General Legal Council.
In a notice published in today’s Sunday Gleaner, the Legal Council says the attorney, Chandra Soares, of the firm Chandra Soares and Company, was guilty of professional misconduct after she wrongly converted nearly $8 million belonging to her client, Kenneth Chung.
According to the Council, Mrs. Soares failed to pay over the sum of money, which was part of the proceeds from the sale of Mr. Chung’s Barbican Road property in St. Andrew, although there was evidence that Mrs. Soares received the total proceeds from the sale of the property.
The Legal Council says Mrs. Soares has failed to maintain the honour and dignity of her profession and acted in a manner which discredits the profession.
It warns that Mrs. Soares is no longer entitled to practice and should not be employed to act in the capacity of an attorney.
