How did you find or first discover Jamaicans.com and what made you start to post?

I first heard of it reading Marcia's Obit in the globe and mail, I think.

checked out the site but didn't find the forums at that time.

I was searching for all things Jamaican on the net... I felt like I was losing my culture and needed to reconnect with something badly.

I may have been reading the gleaner?? I can't remember

Around '96 i sent an email to Xavier to find out if he was interested in helping with shipping donated computers to schools in Jamaica. He responded telling me about his own program and gave link to his website Jamaicans.com. I'm sure the site was then in its very early stage. I never followed up with him re computers to Jamaica but kept browsing his website on and off, 'til I signed up on the threaded message board in '98. I did worked with a volunteer group for a few years sending computers to schools in JA... and did a small program in Accompong setting up the school with its first set of PCs.

Such a long time ago...

You know I don't think I had ever crossed path with bearded board member Accompong at Accompong town, but yeah, I believe he had spent much time there as well.

You all will find this hard to believe but I used to post at Negril.com but got too critical and too political for them to tolerate me. The are run by the Negril Chamber of Commerce which doesn't want anything negative on that website because the website is meant to promote Negril as a tourist destination.

I was gently pushed out and discovered Jamaicans.com around that same time. (2001 or so?) I can post whatever I've wanted to here with very few exceptions and if I spent as much time doing my stained glass work as promoting democratic socialism I'd be a much wealthier person right now.

I can't wait for all the suggestions I'll now probably get to move to T&amp;T.com where they will just LOVE me.

I work in stained glass and have for over 30 years. Tiffany method.
I also create art from sea glass some of which I brought home from Treasure Beach and Negril.
I also created make and sell the best and most stylish cat scratch box available. IMO

I began my Jamaica website addiction over on Negril.com and must have left my email places because I found out about Jamaicans.com through a email &amp; a link from this site. It was a one page message board with mostly Jamaicans speaking patois and I used to study it a lot! (It came in very handy at times, and it has been fun to pretend to be oblivious to what is going on when so many didn't think I understood, so thanks everyone! ).

I remember you Johnnycakes, from over there on negril.com. Hey, one time I got kicked out of the chat room for saying exactly this...<span style="font-style: italic">&quot;I am waiting for a killer sale for a ticket&quot;</span>. because back then, we did get them, like 150 bucks and so forth. Then I got scolded for saying &quot;killer sale&quot;... Anyway that place is boring to heck, but it's like comparing apples to oranges.

Oh and PS...Johnnycakes makes some killer glass dragonfly suncatchers! I have two of them and they are the most beautiful I have seen! I can hardly wait to hang them in my shop.

Mi use fi deh pan wan odda ediat forum (dem cuss pure bad wuds), den mi decide fi doh ah web search fi si wha else did deh out deh an came across dis yah crazy site. I believe there was ah tech forum at di time (ran by nedda memba), but it neva did too well an eventually got deleted.

How about a forum for those of us who create art or have hobbies and pastimes that can be seen at our websites ? We don't make enough money to buy ads and such a forum may bring in many more readers to Jamaicans.com to see what we do.

I had just moved to Oklahoma in 2002, bored and had alot of down time at the job I was working. I used to lurk on Negril.com, at the time I found Jamaicans.com I found it was more user friendly for me. The patois at first used to frustrate me, I was used to hearing it but not reading it!

I've been on the Internet forever back in 95 I had dial up oh that distinct &quot;dial up&quot; sound was so annoying

I used to be on some dancehall boards but dem raucous and tegreg like wah

fast forward to 2000, I bad a baby and was home every day with no jamaicans around me and I was missing my culture so I started looking around to see if I could startup a website, found this one, which was similar to what I had in mind and never left.

This was my source of sanity while being a stay at home mom if it wasn't for the board mi would a mad long time cause there was only so much food network mi couldan watch.
