R&B singer Usher is the latest in a line of celebrities caught up in receiving money from family members of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi. Now Usher says he is going to follow his colleagues lead and give the money away.
In a statement on Friday the superstar said that he was 'sincerely troubled' when he discovered that the New Year's Eve concert he attended in St. Barts is tied to the Libyan dictator. Usher told the Associated Press in a statement that he has decided to give his hefty appearance fee to human rights organizations. He was paid to be at the same private concert that Beyonce performed at in 2009.
Amnesty International was the recipient an <span style="font-weight: bold">undisclosed amount </span>of the singer's fee according to a statement from the group:
"Amnesty International activists are working globally to press the international community to support Middle East activists. ... Usher’s donation will support this urgent work to counter the brutal conditions like those imposed by Gadhafi and other leaders across the Middle East."
This is actually a great place to spend the Gadhafi money. Spend it on the people who the dictator has oppressed.
Usher is now the fourth artist to say that they are donating their Gadhafi fees to charity. <span style="font-style: italic">Mariah Carey, Beyonce Knowles and Nelly Furtado had all performed concerts that they have recently learned were for members of the Gadhafi family. All have either said they were donating the money or allocating money from upcoming projects to charity.</span>
