along with belize & guyana...((also a small island off haiti which some settlers actually made it to---but eventually ended up returning to america (washington d.c. area) while some relocated to haiti))...
apparently lincoln took a lot of heat when he was pushing the idea of re-settlement as many progressives of the time considered it a racist idea;
even though he claimed it was to avoid the obvious racial troubles that would undoubtedly follow the freeing of former slaves in a racialized society...
apparently the british did not allow re-settlemnt in british held colonies due to fear that they would be seen as entering the american civil war on the side of the north
