A very good question indeed!, but one that would best be answered by the <span style="font-weight: bold">Nobel Peace Prize Committee</span> in Norway.. I guess they were trying to influence the inexperienced young president's future decisions to wage war. In other words: "be not like your predecessors who waged wars" ~ If that was their motive, they were either stupid or ill-advised.. The record shows that he was surprised as he didn't think he deserved it and had to be polite by accepting it..

What "problem",....there was no problem in libya that there wasnt in other neighbouring countries,except that this one has an abundance of oil,which it would appear they are trying to get their hands on while gaddafi is weakened.

These so-called "rebels" that have been taking over cities and attacking the government,where did they come from,they appear to be very well armed,isnt it a bit suspicious that they should emerge just when other north african/arab countries are demanding democracy.

Why are britain the US france and other countries supporting these "rebels",people that they themselves would class as terrorists if the boot was on the other foot.

As of last Thursday when I read the Time article and subsequently Googling and reading as much about it as I could I became a Singularitarian.

Kurzweill's technology predictions and the array of very intelligent people who have both joined with him and others to found Singularity University have firmly convinced me that they are correct in what they are saying will happen and yes, within that 35 years.

I am both a communist (anarcho-syndicalist school), a believer in the basic goodness of humanity and an avid science fiction reader ( Utopian science fiction being a favorite) so this all fits quite nicely in with a belief in the great future for humanity that the Singularity guarantees.
Like many communists who worked towards that better future while sacrificing the present the Singularity presents what we have been working for but within a definite time frame.

Most of us older people won't live to take advantage of it but we are ecstatic for those who will live in a far better society that is a just short time away.

I find it interesting that the topic has not aroused much interest in general.
It's all I can think about lately...

I may be disappointed in the lack of interest in the Singularity but for once, what the majority of people think on something I care about, it doesn't matter.

The Singularity will happen anyway at which point everyone will wake up and I mean REALLY wake up to a new world..

Well the imminent problem is that he's a madman who's bombing civilians and destroying his country.

But the ongoing problem is that it's a rich country that has so much potential and for 41 years has been stifled under his rule.
Tripoli is a dump, the people live in diapilated buildings. The infrastructure is crumbling. There are weekly near misses over Libya as the air traffic control does not have basic equipment.

The road from his palace to the airport is of course very nice, and there are beautiful new apartment buildings that he gives to people born on any September (the anniversary of the revolution).

Libya will be better off without Qaddafi.

That is not entirely true,that is simply part of the propaganda being waged to justify military action,...was gadaffi supposed to sit back quietly while the so-called "rebels" wage a military campaign against him,would the US do it,would the UK do it,...what would be the response of the united states if a group of "rebels" with sophisticated weaponry took over los angeles,and a couple other major cities.

So you are saying that the solution to libya,s infrastructure and dilapidated buildings is to get a UN charter to support air strikes on Libya,..that is just crazy,if we are to use the same yardstick to justify military action then even Jamaican airspace would be due for a no fly zone and military action sagainst the JDF.

It is not for us to decide which country is better off under which ruler,we cant judge other leaders and societies by using our own model of democracy,it was widely accepted before the invasion of Iraq that Iraq would be better off without saddam,we now know that wasnt true,thousands have died since,the country is still undivided and people are still dying.
If the Libyan people think their country deserves a better leader then it is them that should be making the changes,not the UN,who was cajoled into it by countries who are blinded by their own self interests.

I think most people just doesnt care,it,s an issue that is pretty far into the future,and most likely will not affect present generations,it,s just not that big a deal,I personally wont give it a second thought fascinating as I am with science fiction.

It's just 35 years away but many amazing things will come to pass between now and then such that the goings on in Libya and elsewhere in the Arab world will be as insignificant as a mosquito bite you got last year..

Isn`t there economic industrial opportunity by way of waging war or getting involved in military interventions especially when artillery and logistic equipment are ever needed?
