What's the standard for establishing this?

That CNN can shoot footage of a few random, anonymous people jumping up and down and raising their fists in the air.

By that standard, when then, may I ask, does the Pentagon start bombing Washington DC? (assuming of course they weren't already part of that on September 11, 2001)

Isnt it incredible that the UN is now intervening in Libya,s internal affairs on the pretense of &quot;humanitarian intervention&quot;.........yet failed to do anything when Israel was bombing the living daylights out it,s neighbours,...absolutely bloody incredible.

Since when have they started to take sides in other countries pro democracy protests to the extent of dropping bombs on their capital.

It was a perfect storm of events that may have led to a questionable decision.. That is, to engage in another mission during these dire economic times. Has nothing to do with this congressional red herring they pulling..

world powers start wars whenever, wherever they want...&amp; use the old tried &amp; true method of lying to the public with seemingly righteous goals;

this is why i don't rate any politician, no matter the color of his skin or the smoothness of his rhetoric...

the peace-loving president is now involved in 3 wars but they gave him a nobel peace prize...

Yes Derek,

I agree with your post and would add that no one should make the fool's mistake of thinking that the United States is involved in wars or interventions or subversion anywhere in the world now or at any time in history for the sake of establishing democracy or to defend the people.

To the contrary, the United States is all about protecting the wealth and privilege of its elite; the people who own our &quot;elected&quot;. This has always involved denying democratic governments since no sane people, no rational society would allow around 10% of any society to own 80% of the wealth while millions live in miserable conditions.


Even these latest rebellions in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya (if successful) mean absolutely nothing since there are no signs that the old ways of putting people in office have disappeared nor has there been any change from the dictatorship of capitalism.

It is only the discarding of capitalism that can engender any chance for true democracy, democracy where it really counts in the lives of that 90% of the people who are not rich and who have to work for a living.

Overthrowing the old establishment is only the first step, it is the beginning and not the end of the revolutionary process as many seem to think.

As the violence and the tumult subsides in the Arab world and the attention of the world is drawn elsewhere I can almost guarantee that the same old totalitarian economic system and the corrupt electoral form subservient to the wishes of the wealthy elite will return.

A revolution without change is not a revolution.

The answer to that question seems to be when said country has lots of Oil......
How else can you explain how the ongoing genocide in darfor is allowed to continue with no one lifting a finger.............

What I can't understand is why so many have been so hypocritical including some members of congress who were calling for quick action by the US to do someting to stop Qhaddafi from killing the protestesters.. Now that the US has seek a coalition with the backing of the UN to stop the Dictator from slaughtering his own people with &quot;their own&quot; Military, there is all this bellyaching and second guessing criticisms about the effort..

I'll remind some of you here that The Egyptian protestesters like those of Libyah were peaceful but their Dictator(s) never used the military against them as Khaddafi is now doing against his own while saying, &quot;I will show no MERCY&quot;.. Should the International Community stand by and watch fellow humans being slaughtered mercilessly like what happened in Darfur and elsewhere for fear of intervening? ~ I say No.. What is going on in Libya is a civil war and no one has a right to intervene.

I suppose those who favor intervention would have also jumped into the American Civil War to defend the rebels or would have wanted Britain to send in troops to get rid of that tyrant Lincoln.

Intervention in a civil war is against international law.

You either have international laws that you obey or you have the world as it is now with the United States picking and choosing which laws happen to benefit and you have chaos.

They aren't going into Bahrain, they didn't go into Darfur, they aren't going into Israel they aren't kicking the Saudis out of Bahrain, they didn't care about the Rwanda genocide where they COULD have gone in for humanitarian reasons .
