PASSENGER rail coaches could begin rolling within weeks of the first test run scheduled for April 16 from May Pen in Clarendon to Spanish Town and Linstead in St Catherine, Transport Minister Mike Henry has disclosed.

According to Henry, next month's trial run will help to, among other things, determine the feasibility of operating the passenger coaches as well as the fare rate to be charged.

too much gun man nowadays, suh i doubt it will be as sweet, but still necessary.
If this takes off, they'll need a security force for the train system, this may provide employment in this way also..
Nuff possibilitiies once they start doing this../

I have been waiting for this type of NEWS for the past 30years when there were attempts to re-start and rejuvinate the Jamaica Railway System with Indian help.. I am pleased as Punch to read this bit of news, because I believe it will not only give Jamaica a Psychological Lift but will provide much needed tansportation Services..

We should not forget that once it's up and running (even partially) there will be a tourist factor that will eventually come into play...

mi agree Exced.
while security will be a major concern (mi memba the last days of JRC,wi use to fret when the Gregory Pk trian a cut thru the back a Majestic gdns Seaview gdns and Riverton City ..
Even here in toronto they the commission has its own security force, so shouldnt be an inditement on Ja if we need one for the service.

Yeah,me and a friend of mine jumped on a train from mobay once and decided to ride it a bit up the island,we stopped off in some country place to take the next train back and got beaten up by some rough looking girl,we both had to run into a tailor shop with this butch looking girl hot on our heels,we had to be rescued by the tailor man.

I dont think I boarded a train in Ja after that.

Of Course! I would, just for the hell of it. But yu done know dat politrixans can't be trusted to honour their promises especially if it's not documented.. One of my mottos, is to <span style="font-weight: bold">always put a man to the test, once he gives you an opening,</span> It could be a friend, family member or other. ~ At worst, he wont &quot;remember&quot;, at best, he may remember and may follow through if it serves his interest... Natral. find your adventure very amusing and interesting; I just need a little clarity.. If it was you and a friend and only this girl which you describe as a &quot;butch&quot;, why couldn't you two overpower her and gotten away without she beating the both of you so badly that a tailor had to rescue unnu... You guys must have been real &quot;small boys' at an age that you couldn't fight her off to escape.. Maybe you guys were too small to be hopping trains

Yeah Stormmey, I've seen some real &quot;mean looking&quot; butch females in my time, especially back on the ROCK in my younger days.. The good thing about me, was that I never put myself into any situation that I would get my [censored] busted by one of them.. I couldn't imagine admitting to any of my friends that I got a black eye from one of them, however bad they were ; I would have had to lie about it.. Such is life..

I used to love sitting on the deck in Content watching the old train chugging up the hill on the way from Montego Bay to Redding and then on to Kingston...especially at night with the headlight sneaking through the 'forest'. Trains are good in MANY ways. Cuts down on BIG truck traffic too. A positive step.

Reg Plus, &quot;A positive step&quot; you say, right on! Bro.. Is there any stronger way to say it? except by saying, it's &quot;a very very positive Step&quot;... Cutting down on BIG truck traffic will certainly help.. If the govt manage to get it back up and running, there are loads of people who will be lining up to sample their first ride for a very long time. Can you imagine there maybe two generations, one for sure of Locals that never knew what it was like to ride on the JRC trains?

PleXx strike a chord when he warns of &quot;Security&quot; Problems&quot; because there could be a mad rush for the &quot;first rides&quot; and as we know Jamaican Pickpockets are among the best in the world ; they <span style="font-weight: bold">will take care a - business</span> if there is massive overcrowding...For some of us who are more selective and not &quot;First Timers&quot;, waiting until they bring back the Dieisel Coaches would be a good idea ; Take it from an old pro, paying a little extra will be worth it..
