Since it's all fantasy to me, I think that the issue is over-blown. The problem is the believers and respect; what I feel/believe is my own issue, and I have no right to disrespect the feeling/beliefs of others. To burn what is considered the <span style="font-weight: bold">HOLY BOOK</span> of another's religion is disrespectful, akin to spitting in their faces. Now one reacts differently to that action, to be spit on might cause violence from one person and just anger from another.

Yes there is the right to a free press and all that worth fighting for but from this atheist/anti-theist's perspective what is being discussed here is the insanity of two splinter groups of extremists from two different religions killing one another over differences in their fairy tales.

Imagine someone going to Disneyland, spitting on a cut-out image of Snow White and getting killed for that.

To burn a book that you know is considered sacred and know that the burning of which will bring crazies from all over to kill the book burner (you) is no less insane than those who go after the profaner.


These are splinter groups of two completely acceptable religions in which the extremists/fundamentalists/ theists are acting in accordance with their man-made religious beliefs to enable them to do evil, stupid things.


It seems Allah and God were not quite infallible, nor omniscient, nor designers all that intelligent since they created such chaos, lack of unity, enmity amongst and between their creations.

The media is complicit in this. There are nut balls all over the United States doing nutty things everyday. The media chooses which nuts they are going to give a platform depending on the political agenda of its owners and what will sell.

And everybody, including the nutballs in Afghanistan seems to be dancing to the media's hype machine in this instance.

Listening to CNN`s coverage, I hear condemnation on the Burning, not because of disrespect to Islam, but because of the threat to American lives present in Afghanistan, re the UN building under siege and the 12 already dead.

it's possible that some used the burning of the quran (did the guy ever actually burn a quran?) as an excuse to carry out planned violence in afghanistan....
it is also possible that the demonstration is about more than the quran burning---as in also a protest against the war &amp; occupation;

i'm reading they are burning effigies of obama &amp; american flags...

personally i don't care what anyone burns as long as they are not burning me or my loved ones or our homes...
but everyone posting here seems to accept violence as acceptable or justified or understandable if it is in response to a diss to your holy book...the afghan president is calling on america to punish the pastor- in other words calling for america to repeal its free speech laws...
i don't care if someone burns 1000 books that i feel are 'holy'...it is primitive backward thinking to justify violence or killing over it

A true christian is a rarity. A charitable attitude toward the poor, a sympathetic attitude toward all oppressed would necessitate an aversion to capitalism.

The societies of the Americas and Europe are both (self-professed) &quot;Christian&quot; and capitalist.
The Bible says&quot; Ye cannot worship both God (practice morality) and mammon (practice capitalism).

It should be more than obvious that it is mammon that is worshipped, immorality accepted and practiced, and by a landslide.

Religion does poison everything but capitalism has got to be the terrestrial version of that same poison.
