Former South African rugby star Joseph Ntshongwana has appeared in court for allegedly hacking three men to death with an axe.

<span style="font-weight: bold">The killings are said to have been to avenge the gang-rape and HIV-infection of his daughter, local reports say.</span>

Mr Ntshongwana, who appeared in a packed Durban court, was not asked to plead to three charges of murder, one of attempted murder and one of assault.

He is a former flanker for 2010 national champions Blue Bulls.

At least one of the bodies was decapitated and the head found in a dustbin almost 2km (1 mile) away.

Another victim's head was left hanging &quot;by a nerve&quot;, police said.

Details of the third man killed have not been released.

&quot;As the axe came down towards my head, I ducked and it scratched my stomach,&quot; said survivor, Khangelani Mdluli, 27, reports Cape Argus newspaper.

Police have alleged that Mr Ntshongwana stalked his victims over several days in and around townships near Durban before killing them.

The police cannot confirm that his daughter was raped, saying that may be investigated later on.

Mr Ntshongwana has been remanded in police custody and is due back in court on 7 April for a bail hearing.

He's a somewhat sympathetic figure IF the people he killed did rape his daughter.
But there is the question of whether the people he killed were really involved in any such incident.

He picked a tough row to hoe. Short of proving that his daughter was raped by those three and at least one was HIV positive, then I doubt he has a chance.

I've been accused of things I did not do so I'd at least want the opportunity to defend myself and not just get my head chopped off so I have some empathy for the men too

Just from the fact he obviously had time to premeditate and still got caught makes me question how steady his judgment is. The least he could have done was taken the time to stealth kill them and gotten away with it. I sort of skimmed the article. Did it say how he got caught?

What exactly are you saying J kid? That thread link you posted is about a man from Texas who was wrongly imprisoned for 30 years for a rape he did not commit. You saying you support collateral damage or something?

If the man's daughter from this thread had erroneously accused you with being one of the rapists, would you be cool with him chopping your head off?

Das not what mi was saying, but since yuh raise di question.

Yuh hav far more innocent people getting killed everyday, dan di few exceptions dat get falsely accused. Yes, an it is possible I could end up being one ah dem, falsely accused. Society need fi send ah message dat preying pan especially old women, and children, wont bi tolerated. If dem rape smaddi, castrate dem, jus dat simple. Yuh may not stop it, but yuh sure wi check it from spiraling outa control.

Why do you hav low incidences of dis kina ting happening in places like Singapore?

Even if up on completion of the investigation, these men did rape his daughter... should his actions be rewarded??? or punished??? let alone by just releasing him??. I think he is wrong and should be penalise in some fashion.

Now as a parent, who God forbid was to experience what he has to live through, I cant blame him, as I do not know what I would do given the situation.

how can the case be tried and they have not investigated the cause
something is definately with that wrong right there
