that is part of the reason why they labeled north africans as 'white'....so they could remove ancient north african civilizations from so-called 'black' africans;
but ancient cave paintings have already proven north africa was black in far antiquity before desertification took over the sahara region...

this is why the term 'caucasian' (supposedly meaning racial type originatiing from caucasus region in eurasia) is totally useless just as 'white' is...

In the US census of 30 years ago, I had a student who was classified as white, because her father was Egyptian. Her mother AND stepfather with whom she lived were Hispanic/Colombian. Her first language was spanish, she was my color, but she was &quot;white&quot;.

My friends in Morocco would say 'Lie'.

I once asked if they consider themselves as white. The reaction was perplexed and the response was &quot;Oh no. We are not white and we do not look white and we do not see ourselves as white.&quot; For them they are Africans and that is it. However my friend looks more Spanish/Italian than Moroccan and on the street mistaken as a European than a Moroccan. Looking at pictures of his mother, she and I shared the same complexion.

I won't argue about today's Egypt but the so-called ancient Egypt or, as the inhabitants called it - Kemet (which literally translates to &quot;black land&quot, did not hide its identity.
Interesting side fact: a good reference dictionary will show you that the English words &quot;Alchemy&quot;, &quot;Chemistry&quot;, &quot;Chemical&quot; etc. all trace their origin to that word &quot;Kemet&quot; via Arabic and Greek.
It's interesting that their name lives on stealthily in some pretty common words without our conscious knowledge.

But anyway, on the topic at hand, the race classifications are always self-serving of those in power who institute them.
Notice in South Africa, where blacks are a majority and it is beneficial to foster division, mullatos are 'coloureds' with more rights than 'blacks'.
However, in the US, where blacks are a minority, the one-drop rule was considered more appropriate.
