THE EDITOR, Sir:
It is not often that our politicians take the high ground and break ranks with their party on important issues.

I remember the furore when former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller did so on the issue of equipment for fire fighters. Now I wish to commend Councillor Devon Wint on his principled stand on the issue of the recently announced tax package.

Wint broke ranks with his party and demanded a rollback on national television. This was as refreshing as it was encouraging.

To see a young politician taking a principled stand in opposition to the elders of his movement is welcomed and shows that all is not lost for Jamaica - not all the young politicians have 'drunk from the old wine'.

Mr Wint obviously has space for some new wine.

We welcome actions such as these in the name of reason and impartiality. Be encouraged Mr Wint, we are encouraged by your actions.

You know mi drink two run wid mi uncle friend a couple weeks ago who was celebrating his 76th B-day. De man draw more gal then de whole a we young ppl!
Him tell me seh him have wife at home and two girlfriend a road! But from de looks of it is more than 2! Smaddy aks him how much viagra it tek at his age and him reply 'a wah name so?'

Mi nuh waan coast when me reach dem age deh. Mi waan galivant same weh.

Yawn.............. both the PNP and the JLP were talking about trains for years.
The PNP killed with the Highway 2000 Secret Agreement. The JLP said whatever it took they will restart it
It took three years. the thing has been in mothball since 1992.....I can't how this an Election stunt.

So it will run till 2013 and quit?

The timing of the launch is an election stunt. The train itself is not. I've been following the developments on this for many years and realise that the PNP government which killed it in the first place, lost the big picture and was under pressure from the Highway people to keep the train dead.

While I an pleased to see the JLP governement &quot;un-pap-dung&quot; the train, I am cautiously optimistinc due to the apparent total investment in the project of aproximately $300 (fi de paint).

i cant recall any smoking bylaws in Jamaica..as far as i know you can still smoke anywhere
