NEWBURGH (WABC) -- Grief and tension filled the funeral for the three children who died in the Hudson River tragedy earlier this month.

Gwendolen Green, a second cousin of the mother, LaShanda Armstrong, said she was kicked out of the service after she stood up for her 17-year-old son who was being &quot;manhandled.&quot;

&quot;The last straw was when they messed with my child,&quot; she said.

Armstrong, 25, loaded her four children into a minivan on April 12 after an argument with the father of the three youngest. She drove down a boat ramp in Newburgh into the Hudson River. The oldest child, a 10-year-old La'Shaun Armstrong, crawled out a window and survived.

<span style="font-weight: bold">LaShanda was laid to rest last week after a joint funeral was cancelled by the dead children's father, Jean Pierre. Armstrong's relatives were angry with the decision.</span>

&quot;We're all still dealing with everything, and coping with it,&quot; said one family member.

At Lashanda Armstong's funeral last week, mourners used pictures of her three children and balloons with their names on it, <span style="font-weight: bold">to try to bring unity to the service.</span>

The funerals were held for 5-year-old Landen, 2-year-old Lance, and baby Lainaina on Monday.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Mourners arriving for the service were checked against a list before they were allowed inside.</span></span>

Green said she was not on the list, but she managed to get in.

Jean Pierre, the father of the murdered kids, entered the viewing, followed by his family which had gathered on one side of the lawn.

Lashonda's mother, grandmother to the children, was allowed into the viewing early, returning outside, clearly shaken to the hugs from the rest of the Armstrong family who were forced to wait outside.

The mourners were divided into factions inside the funeral home, Green said.

Green said La'Shaun did not attend the service for his three siblings.

&quot;It was too much for him,&quot; she said.

She said Lainaina was wearing a white dress &quot;like an Easter dress&quot; and the boys were wearing dark suits.

yes they have tons of helplines for families in crisis... but you have to make the call

Well here is my two cents....

Why when peeple want to kill themself they dont just do it and leave others alone.....why they find it necessary to take others with them.....is it the ultimate hurt for the ones left behind.....like hell I am gone but you will hurt forever....it could very well that she was unhinged having kids so fast and from such a young age.

Also!! I see the tone here is the man must have been doing something to her.....abuse whether physical or verbal/mental.....betcha if the man had done this you would hear wot a wikid so and so.....look how him kill off the pikni dem. Poor kids

This is one of the most painful things I have read in a long time Depression is a helluva thing and she could very well be suffering from PPD. When my friend told me she had felt like filling her tub and taking her boys in with her some time ago but instead took up the phone and called her mom, that's when I realised how dark that illness can be. And I'm not justifying her action.

how about doing what most sane compassionate women do and get away...
i can under no circumstances excuse what she did by hollering about how bad the guy was...

only today's cultural indoctrination &amp; setup makes this seem like such an outrageous thing...when actually it's pretty natural;

two parents going out of the home &amp; leaving their kids to be cared for by strangers is more outrageous but no one says anything about that as it is considered 'normal' in today's culture

what cause if so the man treat the ooman in death, he was not that good to her while she lived either. While I do not condone what she did, I can understand her sense of frustration, coupled with being a young mother to 4 kids without proper resources resulting in some sad decisions.

A woman does not voluntarily want to off her kids. Clearly she was depressed and helpless to the point where she did what she did

Usually married to the guy and the husband being the provider in the family. He was the boyfriend, she worked and was going to school and raising 4 kids - yes - unusual.

Many do you just dont hear about it too much. The downfall is the nuclear family home as opposed to the intergenerational home. Grandparents watched the kids while parents went to work to care for the family if two incomes were needed.

a man does not voluntarily want to off his wife/woman...clearly they are depressed at the prospect of losing her or her running off with another man,
so he has no choice but to put her out of her misery

i've known women in worse situations who did not commit such a heinous act...
husband/boyfriend---these are just labels---he was the children's father;

i don't care if he was the devil himself...

i wonder she tried to block his presence/certain people from the funeral if the tables were turned it would even make the newspapers
