According to a report by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), about 528 convicted criminals were deported to Jamaica from the United States<span style="font-weight: bold"> between October 2010 and March of this year. </span>
THE STAR understands that a total of 88,497 criminal migrants were sent back to Latin America and the Caribbean over the six-month period.
Of this number, over 2,000 convicted criminals were deported to the Caribbean region.
The report also revealed that in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic received the most criminal deportees in the time period with 1,066 while Trinidad received 125.
Sixty-five criminals were sent back to the Bahamas, 50 to Aruba, 31 to Haiti, <span style="font-weight: bold">20 to Cuba,</span> 11 to Barbados and 10 to Dominica.
Interestingly, the report revealed that Jamaica received the second highest number of deportees in the Caribbean region.
Meanwhile, the biggest receiver of deportees in Latin America was Mexico with 70,874.
