Have you ever been in a tornado?

I have been in a set of them during a hurricane and then one then one that was just a tornado alone. There is no greater feeling of helplessness.

The set of them during the hurricane was when I was a child. My mom, dad, brother, and I were sleeping in one bedroom in the interior of the house. (I think my mom took a nerve pill so she was knocked out.) I could not sleep through it though. Plus we had those copper frame things on the door that sounded like Gabriel was blowing his horn all night. I thought surely the world was coming to an end.

Freight train sounds passing through left and right. It was a total nightmare and if I can help it, I will never avoid evacuating an area where a hurricane is prediced to head.

The second came through one morning while I was getting ready for work. I lived in a small one bedroom end unit apt on an upper level with just my little doggie, Krystal. I opened the balcony door to let some air in the apt and was about to take a shower. I heard something falling like rocks and Krystal started barking. I went back in the den to see what was going on. It had turned pitch black as night outside and hail was falling onto the balcony.

All I could do was scream "run for it", and I headed for the tub and she ran under the bed. It didn’t last that long but I swear I thought a tree was going to come through the wall. No work for me that day (power nor shower even for that matter) but when the flood water finally subsided, my car looked like a a golf ball made of big fist prints.

seeing the funnel cloud forming, as i once did while driving on the interstate in LR was enuff..that tornado wiped out this black housing area near the airport...neva forgot that...
