Just found it funny that they compare crime in Egypt to crime in New York as though it's a bad thing. If you want to look at the stats, New Yawk is one of the safest large cities in the United States.

Was crime low or they just hid some of it well?

I remember the News Reporter who got severely finger raped there during the uprising, her clothes ripped off, and limbs almost pulled apart, stating that rape happened to women there all the time, it was just not spoken about by the women, who usually are made to feel severe shame by the community.

Egypt is a big tourist destination. Mubarak probably kept a lid on crime reporting in the media. You know pick-pocketing an ting would have been plentiful.

Meaning I'd feel safer walking thru most of NYC than the chaotic streets of Cairo with all the people made unemployed by the revolution-spurred economic downturn in Egypt.

Never been to Dogde City so can't comment on that.

The revolution in Eygpt is a partial one at best, it's a misnomer to call it such... This is what happens when most of the old guard are still in office running the affairs of the country.. There was no clean sweep or changing of the guards (so to speak), or not yet a new transitional government.. Clipping the wings of the hated police by sending some officers to jail may look good to ordinary folks, but it has caused a break down in policing, allowing crime to emerge..

A lot of the violence is against the police needed for law and order.. It seems, they have deliberately brought this about by a sinister plot, to create a &quot;growing crime wave&quot; giving them &quot;the old guard&quot;, the justification they need for stalling the move to real &quot;Elections and Democracy&quot; so they can cling to power with emergency powers.. It will be very interesting to see where it will eventually take them..
