Jamaican charged with rape and murder in CT

CONNECTICUT, USA (AP) — A man awaiting deportation after a drug arrest has been charged with a 2004 rape and murder in East Hartford.
Police say 41-year-old Kelvin Daye, a native of Jamaica, was linked to the murder of 36-year-old Trupti Patel by DNA evidence. Daye was forced to provide the state with a DNA sample after his 2007 drug conviction.
Patel was found shot to death in July 2004 inside the basement of her apartment complex after being reported missing by her husband.
Daye faces charges including capital felony, which could result in a death sentence if he is convicted. His bond has been set at $5 million pending a court appearance today. It was not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
Police say more arrests are possible.
