the test conducted on the counters, milk containers, de kinna germs dem find, me say whaaaa,

fecal and yeast ???

good god!!

do you practice extra care, or you just say cha, dem germs deh deh everywhere??

germs are everywhere;

modern society based on worshipping the god of money- which leads to speed & shortcuts- so this will happen;

they probably don't show the swarm of rats (four-legged ones) running wild thru the place once the two-legged rats called the owners leave

Sista-C, di people who goh ah tilet an noh was dem hands are mainly tuh blame! Yuh would be surprise how many still goh in deh duh dem business an grab di door handle, an walk out w/o washing dem hands. Den goh back inna di restaurant goh grab up, grab stuff in deh. Den di poor sap who did wash dem han, den goh grab di door knob an braps, like ah science fiction movie di likkle buggers hitch ah ride to goh create more chaos!

I take precautions when touching public things. Like I don't remember the last time I pushed an elevator button with my finger tip. If I can't tell someone "9 please" lol, then I use my knuckle.

I rarely get sick (knock on wood), but I think the amount of carnivals and parks I went to when I was younger might have built up my immunity. I think you need exposure to at least some germs or the first small bug that comes along will probably take you out.

I walk with hand sanitizer in my purse every day but the number of places I plop my purses, I probably need to wipe them down with the sanitizer every day before I even go in the house.

If I had to guess why the counters were so jacked up at Starbucks, I'd say it came from the customers.

I break out in a cold sweat when I go in a restroom with only the air hand dryer. I will pull my dress tail up to avoid touching a bathroom door handle upon exiting. I'm not having it.

And the whole door handle thing brings to mind a date I went on where the man was double dipping the appetizer. That might not have been the worst thing ever except after opening the door for me and holding the menu to order, he never once washed his hands before eating. If he thought I was going to dip into that human bacteria frap...

Obviously yuh neva si all di test dem do at local gyms. A dehsoh germs a breed. Imagine all dem sweaty, sweaty people a share equipment. Dowes who noh wash dem han afta using di teilet an den com put dem han pan di machine dem. When dem show yuh di amount a germs dem weh a do okie-pokie dance all bout, it is enough fi tun yuh stomach. I agree with you, Tulip.

There are germs - bacteria, yeast and fungi - everywhere in the environment. The only real defense against the baddies is a healthy immune system, which depends not only on good nutrition but on avoiding the things that break it down - and on good sleep habits, good drinking water, exercise, fresh air and stress management. It's important to try to avoid the usual processed poly-unsaturated oils in cooking and in so many commercial foods, and also trans fatty acids and bio-engineered foods as much as possible.

The traditional Ghanaian diet is very healthy eating, but the introduction about 45 years ago of comercial over-processed vegetable oils and fake flavour additives - Maggi cubes and so on. The Health Ministry is trying to encourage Ghanaians to go back to their traditional foods for the sake of their health, as the seasonings, natural oils and vegetables are so nourishing - apart from tasting great!

But I think that probably the stress of worrying about harmful organisms in the environment can cause almost as much harm as the beasties themselves.

ms peaches, howdy,

a true eno, we just have to try and maintain a good healthy body, wash we hands as often as possible, dats why me cant bother with rings no more....tired fe a tek dem off......eat right, leave out the plant processing foods, and stick to the farm produce....cause we cant fight all the germs dem out deh, we wudda drive we self nuts....my gosh....

Here in Ghana, one of the worst hazards is in internet cafes. They are frequented mostly by the younger crowd, in a country where water is in short supply and there are virtually no public toilet facilities. There's a cholera epidemic going on right now, the government has had a campaign to stop 'street food' hawkers from selling their wares right over open gutters and ppl are being urged on TV ads to wash their hands with soap and water, as it's the only way to stop the outbreak.

But internet cafes - oh Lord God!!

As far as sales go, that could potentiially put ah serious hurting pan som ah di local vendors. Guess dem could provide free hand whipes, or hand washing buckets?

Small price fi pay to maintain sales volume.
