I believe this. All the TV reports I have seen are from the grounds Bab Al Africa - Corinthia Hotel Tripoli.

I know this hotel very well as I have stayed in it at least a dozen times. Not one news report I've seen was from outside the hotel, or its grounds.

The only time the journalists go outside is when they are escorted by Ghaddafi's Information Minister.

That's why I take all new reports from Libya with a bag of salt.

I have seen scenes from Green Square, Tajura, Hay al Andalus, Gurji, Bin Ashur...Gararish, in Tripoli area... As well as a report from Al Khoms which is to the east of Misurata...admitedly I tend not to watch news...I listen to radio reports

So far I find odd though there has been no back ground shots at Sabhrata and or Lebdah (Leptis Magana).. Which shows the journalists are not free to roam... (Because the backgrounds are so spectacular and Sabratha is only 40 minutes from the Bab Al Africa...

My office was in the Coritha buisness center.(The donut we called it!).. Spent alot of time in the coffee bar by the main entracne.. interestingly the US consulate was in the Corintha Hotel.. And it droe the US security mental as we use to sneak in through the emergency entrance!!!! That security was a joke.. the buzzers went off ...

Here is a question on Libya.. All the main entrances of all the big hotels had airport style security for the last 15 years.. Why ????

Since most heads of state that visited Gadhaffi didn't like sleeping in a tent, they all stayed at the Bab Al Africa. The security was even tighter one day when Mubarak visited and we had to lugga lugga our suitcases uphill from the road by the medina to the entrance. All the journalists were taking our pictures because we look so hot! (probably just to fine-tune their camera settings)

Always some big ppl staying in that hotel so de security was tough.

On the other hand, the security at the airport was a joke. I never used to take out my wallet or watch or phone since no ammount of metal would set of the metal detector.

When they scanned your suitcases, the security man would have his back to the monitor, smoking a cigarette, and chatting with his collegue.

The airline complained that security is lax, and below international standards.
Guess what happened?
They set up a secondary screening by the gate for the CREW only (which was ridiculously tough) while the passengers could by pass it. After a couple months that idea was abandoned thou.

Now off course service suspended and probably won't resume for quite some time.

I for one would feel very nervous staying in a country where the airpoort was closed - but then, I guess that's the least of the worries of the beknighted ppl of Libya for now and who knows for how much longer?! I pity them!

Majix, that is a truly STUNNING hotel! Did I hear that some guests had to run outside when it was hit by NATO bombers??? Their menus were amazing - did you eat in one of their restaurants? They must be very expensive. But then, food is (was?) subsidised in Libya.
